Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I help with real sports stories daily. I have edited video for digital audiences that has been published. I have written articles for BBC Sport internationally. I help with story ideas and planning.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
It is so fun, it is always changing and I get to do what I love everyday.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
My written journalism skills have improved more than I could ever imagine. I have learnt new software and interviewing skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
We sometimes are unaware of what we are doing until a day or two before or the plan is very fully confirmed and often feels like most things are TBC labelled, but I guess that's journalism sometimes, and could actually help us in the future.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
They are so supportive in anything you need. For learning time? you got it, good luck. Family emergency? take as much time as you need, I hope everything's okay. Need some more workplace/ learning adaptions? I'll help contact your tutor/manager, as long as it can help you, let's do it.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Had some hiccups with reasonable adjustments but the tutors are really nice and try and do what they can with the online platform. But it can be very tough.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I can't be a journalist without the qualification, and there is definitely a reason for that. Media Law has helped me with some investigative projects. Essential journalism has helped my written skills grow and understanding the industry by people who have been in it or are still in it, is always helpful.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are apprenticeship network event. However, they don't seem to happen very often, only on seasonal occasions. Sports teams would be great! I know Children In Need will improve this, but I haven't been here for much of that yet. There is also podcasts and apprenticeship community roles, however, only a few people get selected for these, out of hundreds of apprentices.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
They are so supportive of apprentices. They will help you grow and push you in the best way possible. I genuinely feel so welcome in this corporation, even though it's so big. My cohort are like my work family and we have such good fun and are really each others' support system. I genuinely don't want to leave and really hope to stay at the BBC for as long as possible.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
Be yourself and be curious of others. It is also a big competition so make sure you're competitive in what you're doing to make your application stand out as the winner.
