Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Sometimes I could be supporting the on-air radio teams with booking guests, writing cues or editing radio packages or creating re-spins. Other days, I might be writing with the Online team or making sure that all the stories that I pick up from the beginning can be turned into a multi-platform story!
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
Being a journalist is something that I have always wanted to do, so being able to do this in an innovative way with such a diverse media organisation is incredible!

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
The way that I write Online articles, or writing stories in general, has changed for the better, as well as being able to communicate with so many different people from all sorts of organisations and walks of life!

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
There is good organisation across my apprenticeship as a whole at the moment, but sometimes can be stressful in terms of organisation with my learning provider. But as a whole, I feel supported in terms of the schedule and the routine that I have in my office/placement and the college part of my course, especially because a lot of my tutors have worked or still currently work for the BBC.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I gain a lot of support from my employer, especially between me and my line manager and my scheme leader. They support me with any questions or queries that I might have about how the BBC. They have also been very accommodating, especially in terms of any placements that I might want to look into various departments during my apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
My training provider helps me a lot in terms of revision techniques for exams, as well as providing me with any mocks or practice materials for the topics that we have covered so far.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Basically everything that I have covered in college at the moment has linked back to my placement role in my office. It has definitely helped me to cement the knowledge further, as it is being applied in my office placement (which is purposely aligned with what I am studying at the moment.)
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
I am part of a few Staff Networks at the BBC. Being new to the organisation, this has allowed me to meet new people outside of my home base, and make friendships and connections all over the country! I am also an active member of the Apprentice Community (Committee) and the Apprentice Podcast which holds engaging sessions, talks and community sessions on various interesting topics!

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Because even though I am new, it feels like an organisation that I belong to, as many viewpoints and perspectives are presented.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
Honestly, be yourself! The BBC is an organisation that genuinely embraces individuality.
