My job is within the Customer and Corporate Services department. I am a part of a small team that strives to deliver the best possible experience for our customers. Through continuous improvement, we’re able to support other departments with the Quality Framework.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

Since starting in September, my role has given me lots of opportunities and the chance to meet some lovely new people. I have taken part in Team Days and Innovation Boosters, and I’ve been on several site tours to water and wastewater sites. This role supports your development both professionally and personally.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I’ve developed a wide range of skills that have helped me grow both personally and professionally. I’ve learned how to collaborate effectively within a team, communicate with greater confidence, and manage my time across a variety of tasks and responsibilities.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

It is well‑structured, with a wide range of opportunities that encourage learning, growth, and deeper involvement across different areas of the business.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Personally, I have monthly 1‑to‑1 sessions with my line manager where we reflect on what has gone well that month and discuss any questions or concerns I may have. My manager is friendly and approachable, so I always feel comfortable reaching out to her at any time for support or guidance.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive a lot of support from my training provider. Each month, I begin a new module, which starts with a meeting where everything I need to complete is explained in detail. After the meeting, I’m sent the presentation to refer back to, and I also have access to additional resources on the training website for each module. On top of that, I know I can email my provider at any time if I have questions or need further guidance.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My qualification has helped me perform better in my role by giving me relevant knowledge and practical skills that I can apply straight away. Each module strengthens my understanding of key areas and builds my confidence, making me more effective in my day‑to‑day work.

Why?
I would recommend an apprenticeship at Northumbrian Water because it offers great support, valuable hands‑on experience, and plenty of opportunities to learn and grow. The teams are all friendly and approachable, and apprentices are genuinely encouraged to develop their skills and build confidence. It’s a great place to start a rewarding career.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Northumbrian Water Group?
If an apprenticeship comes up and you are interested, just apply for it! Make sure for interview prep to look up our values and highlight how you have demonstrated them in the past. But most importantly, just be yourself.
