Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I enjoy my role as no day is the same. I am given extra responsibilities as my manager is deeply involved in my development. I have a range of tasks including diary management, coordinating meetings, preparing documents and reports, supporting operational projects, and maintaining action logs to track progress and deadlines. I also complete off-the-job training to support my apprenticeship, which can include shadowing colleagues in different roles, attending training sessions, and developing skills relevant to management and business administration. In addition, I attend university recall days, usually two days each month, which support the academic side of my apprenticeship and allow me to apply what I learn to my role.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I am only three months into my course and I am enjoying it a lot so far. I find the programme interesting and relevant to my role, and it is helping me develop my knowledge and skills in management and leadership. The combination of practical experience in the workplace and the academic learning through university recall days makes the programme engaging and allows me to apply what I learn directly to my job.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have developed new skills such as confidence when presenting and academic writing. As I mentioned, I am only three months into the programme, but I already feel I have learned a lot. The course has also helped me build on existing skills, such as organisation and time management, by giving me opportunities to apply them in both my workplace tasks and university assignments.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Overall, I think the programme is fairly well-structured, especially the combination of on-the-job learning and university recall days. The university sessions are organised and provide clear guidance on completing assignments and developing skills.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I receive excellent support from my manager, who is actively involved in my development, provides guidance, and gives me opportunities to take on extra responsibilities that help me learn on the job. They check in regularly and offer constructive feedback, which I really value. However, the apprenticeship team’s support has been very poor. Since becoming an apprentice, I have had no communication from them unless I chase it myself. For example, I had to contact them to confirm that I was definitely starting university on 20th January, and no guidance or advice was offered beyond the general information sessions. Overall, while my manager provides great support, the wider apprenticeship team could be far more proactive, providing check-ins and ongoing guidance for apprentices.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The university provides solid support through recall days and academic resources, helping me develop my knowledge and skills relevant to my role.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
It’s still a bit early days, as I am only three months into the programme, but I can already see how the qualification is helping me develop practical and academic skills, such as presenting, academic writing, and organisation. I expect that as I progress further, it will continue to support my performance and allow me to apply what I learn more directly to my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
No, there don’t appear to be any sports teams or organised networking events at work. If such activities do exist, I am not aware of them, and there hasn’t been any information provided to encourage participation.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Yes, I would. It’s a great opportunity for anyone already working in the Trust to develop their skills and gain qualifications, such as a degree, while continuing to work and get paid. The combination of practical experience and academic learning makes it a valuable programme for career development.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust?
I would recommend being proactive. Make sure you chase the apprenticeship team for updates, as communication can be limited. Speak to other apprentices who have already gone through the process to get first-hand advice. It’s also important to do your own research and take responsibility for your own progress, rather than relying entirely on the apprenticeship team for guidance.
