Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I work with a range of teams across social, creative, and media to help curate and deliver campaigns for BBC shows like The Night Manager and The Traitors. My role includes managing emails, attending meetings, contributing to brainstorms, and supporting events. As an apprentice, I also get involved in the wider community, help out at BBC events, and have the opportunity to shadow different departments that interest me and align with my future career goals.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy my programme a lot because it gives me a mix of creative work, hands‑on experience, and opportunities to grow. Working with social, creative, and media teams on major BBC campaigns keeps the job exciting and varied. I like being involved in meetings, brainstorms, and events, as it helps me build confidence and understand how campaigns come together.
I also really value the apprentice side of the programme, like getting involved in the community, helping at events, and shadowing different departments. These experiences have helped me explore what I’m interested in and shape my career goals. Overall, the programme is engaging, supportive, and full of learning opportunities, which makes it very enjoyable for me.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, I’ve learnt a wide range of new skills and developed many existing ones throughout my programme. One of the biggest areas of growth has been my creative skills. Working with social, creative, and media teams has taught me how campaigns are shaped from the very first idea to the final output. I’ve become much more confident contributing to brainstorms, understanding creative strategy, and spotting what makes content engaging for different audiences.
I’ve also developed practical creative skills, such as understanding how key art works, how assets are adapted for different platforms, and how to give constructive feedback on visuals or copy. Being exposed to different types of creative work, from trailers to social formats to event materials, has helped me build a more professional creative eye.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My line managers always make a real effort to understand what I want to get out of the experience. As well as making sure I’m building the core skills and being challenged in the right ways, they also take my opinions and interests seriously. We regularly discuss what I want to learn or explore, and from those conversations we create an action plan that helps shape my development. It makes the programme feel personalized and shows that my growth is genuinely supported.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
A lot
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I feel really supported because my managers check in with me regularly. Whenever we have sessions, they always ask what I need help with, how I’m getting on, and what I want to develop next. They genuinely listen to my questions and what I have to say, and they take it all on board. I always leave those conversations feeling guided, understood, and supported in my progress.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel my qualification supports my role well because everything I learn is current and relevant to how the industry works today. The training covers modern digital platforms, audience behavior, communication skills, and project organisation, which all link directly to what I do in my day‑to‑day role. It helps me understand the theory behind campaigns and gives me practical skills I can apply straight away. Overall, the up‑to‑date content and structured learning make me more confident and better prepared in my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes, there are lots of extra‑curricular activities. We have a netball team, an active apprentice community that puts on events, and we also organise our own social hangouts. There are also plenty of networking sessions and workshops across the organisation, so there’s always something to get involved in.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I was a bit apprehensive before I started, but six months into my apprenticeship I feel really supported and confident. My team listens to my opinions, involves me in the work, and encourages me to explore what I’m interested in. The apprenticeship scheme has so much to offer, and I’ve learned that asking for opportunities really pays off. By speaking up about shadowing and new experiences, I’ve already gained a lot from my time here.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
I would say it’s really important to understand what you’re applying for and why you’re applying. You don’t need a lot of experience, or even any at all, but you do need to show genuine interest and back it up with examples. The BBC values are also a key part of the process, so try to reflect them clearly in your answers and show how you demonstrate them.
Most importantly, don’t try to fit into a box or guess what you think they want. They look for originality and people who are genuinely themselves. Showing your personality and your motivation will take you a long way.
