Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I work in the Technical Accounting & External Reporting team so we deal with a lot of queries from around the business. This may be offering advice or support with accounting questions, posting or checking journals and completing technical tasks. I support my colleagues on any of the above. Particularly, tasks surrounding corporate leases, FX reporting and budgeting, Purchase Orders, reconciliations and hedging.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I am enjoying the variety of tasks that I have worked on and how they support the wider business. My university learning has tied into what I have been working on and the learning steps, on the online portal, have been incredibly helpful. I have not been able to put everything I have learnt into practice yet (as I am early into my apprenticeship).

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Daily, I learn something new or build on an existing skill. All of the financial tasks I do are new, so I have learnt a lot when completing those. Most of these tasks involve software that is new to me, or are Excel based, giving me the chance to build on existing learning.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme is very well structured with both my employer and university giving me clear timetables and checking on my progress towards these.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer has provided with excellent support so far. I have a clear line manager structure in my team, with weekly and monthly catch ups, and HR hold regular check ins to find out how I am getting on. I always have people to reach out to to ask questions, and the ethos is very supportive throughout the whole business.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The learning ladder/steps, on my university's online portal, are a great way for me to learn. However, the live lectures don't always line up with my timetable, so it can be difficult to access those for some of my modules. The university does reach out to check in with me.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I have certainly been able to complete tasks to a better standard using what I have learnt through my training provider. Due to the nature of my apprenticeship, I am learning some topics that will benefit me later in my role, but not necessarily at this moment in time. I have also had some tasks that I have not learnt how to do through my learning provider.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
My work has an abundance of clubs, groups and activities that I can get involved in. These are signposted regularly and are open to everyone.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The BBC has been a perfect corporate company to work for. The ethos and values are very people focused and people driven, making you feel like you can be yourself in the workplace. If someone has a particular interest in working in media, then it is a great company to work for the puts the emphasis on content not profit.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
Be yourself! It is clearly about people being themselves and not having to fit a mould that other businesses may want you to. Being enthusiastic about what the BBC does and how you want to be a part of it will also help. You don't need to leave everything the BBC makes, but having an interest in it will help.
