4.4/5 - Structure and Support

Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
On my work placement my role involves learning the current and upcoming systems in place. I do checks to ensure the TV & Radio outputs are what we expect and that systems are up and running smoothly. I also respond to incoming alarms and phone calls, often involving fixing or replacing hardware components.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I love my programme, the support I get, the benefits I get, the people I work with and the work I get to do

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt job specific skills such as using different broadcast software, replacing and fixing hardware components, diagnosing problems in a system. I have also learnt soft skills such as improvisation, communication and organisation

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I love the structure, the work/life balance and balance of uni learning and work placement also works really well for me and was a big reason as to why I applied for the role in the first place. The course is mostly very well organised although there have been some last minute changes and some let downs from the uni side of things.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I have received support any time I have reached out for it and I also have received continuous general support through arrangements such as 121s with my manager.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The training provider has given some support but not to the same extent as my employer. The training provider often is very late when giving support or is very vague with communications
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The content I have learnt through my training provider has directly correlated with the knowledge necessary for my placement role
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are many networks, socials and sporting events to get involved with.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
They have been a great employer, the training is amazing, the equipment and systems we get to work with is fantastic, the people are great, the salary is reasonable and the benefits are great as well.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
You don't need to know everything about the course you're applying for, they will teach you it. You do, however, need a genuine passion for the subject, be willing to work hard and have your values in alignment with the BBC values.
