Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role as a BBC apprentice is very varied, even as someone that is based in a business role, I have been able to work on a range of projects/events in various teams. My workload is varied and consistent in amount and balances well with my studies. My day to day is aa mixture of meetings with team members and other colleagues, balancing typical admin duties and working on projects and upcoming events.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
While Business is not the area I aspire to in the future, I have enjoyed my scheme massively. It has taught me an abundance of transferable skills that make me a valuable asset to my organisation, and has helped me to understand my industry on a professional level. My team members and line managers have been the highlight of my scheme, endlessly supportive and constantly trying to get me more varied experience. My scheme leader has also been a massive support.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt a range of new skills in the 6 months I have been an apprentice, from transferable skills such as communication and project organisation that I can use in other areas, to role specific ones such as procurement and liaising with clients. My work in other teams has allowed me to learn even more skills than I would just in my team, such as editing, writing, research and working with talent. I feel as though I am constantly developing over the course of my apprenticeship, and the BBC champion the idea of apprentices being encouraged to learn further skills outside of their roles via shadowing etc.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I have received a lot of support, mainly from my scheme leader. My scheme leader is always available and promptly responds to any issues we may have. They champion us feeling secure in our scheme, and have provided a safe space for us to raise issues/concerns. They encourage us to attend regular meetings to share progress, and discuss how we are feeling. My scheme is well structured, and the timeline of my course is regularly clarified and discussed. I feel supported and understand well the structure of my course and why it is formatted in this way.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
the BBC, and in particular my line manager have been incredibly supportive. There are regular checks on my welfare, how I am feeling and getting on, and what my opinions are on my job role and qualification. The BBC champions apprentices being able to speak out about things such as workload and needing more support, and I feel safe in alerting my manager on how I am coping and if i need extra support
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I receive adequate support from my training provider in regards to my qualification. They have been responsive to queries, and set up meetings to clarify information and provide support. Whilst my default choice would be my scheme leader to seek assistance from, I am also aware that my training provider can provide insight and support.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The skills and knowledge I have learnt on my course are plenty transferable to my every day job role. In both senses of contextual/industry knowledge helping me be more of a productive asset to my team and its operations, to more practical skills such as prioritisation and structuring of work. Overall the things I learn on my course help me to perform better in my role overall
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There is plenty for apprentices at the BBC. There are regular events/opportunities at each base, and apprentices themselves organise wider socials and events to network and have fun. The BBC has a range of societies and clubs which are free to join and provide a great out of work culture for the BBC.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The BBC is the best place to start an apprenticeship. Its a flexible workplace, that encourages taking opportunities and self growth, and your team and fellow colleagues will facilitate that entirely. There is a constant ring of support, and its a safe space to ask for help and address concerns. The BBC is the best place for networking and career progression, and has an incredible working culture that makes you feel valued and seen unlike any other workplace.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
show your passion, thats what the BBC look for primarily. As long as you have an emotional investment into the company, and have a deep passion and alignment with its values then that is all you need. Demonstrate how you are a good fit into a team/working environment and prove why you would be an asset into continuing the incredible work that is already done here
