Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
I’m a key point of contact for learners during their time at RWT, offering guidance, pastoral support and helping resolve any issues that might affect their experience. I work in partnership with colleges, universities and training providers to maintain smooth communication and ensure our programmes run effectively.
I also help monitor the quality of learning environments, gather feedback and support improvements across departments. Alongside this, I contribute to a range of early‑careers and workforce development initiatives, helping build strong talent pipelines for the Trust.
Accurate administration and compliance are a core part of what I do—managing records, onboarding processes and reporting to support governance. Overall, my role helps create a positive, inclusive learning culture and supports learners to succeed and progress into NHS careers.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
Being in Year 2 of my CMDA has deepened my skills even further, especially in areas like strategic thinking, coaching, problem‑solving and leading with emotional intelligence. Altogether, my learning has made me more capable, more confident and better equipped to support learners and contribute to the development of the future workforce at RWT
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?
The programme itself is well organised, with clear milestones, reviews and support points built in. The team ensures I always know what’s expected and they check in regularly to make sure I’m progressing and feel confident with my learning. Their encouragement, feedback and practical support have made it much easier to manage my CMDA studies alongside my day‑to‑day responsibilities, and I feel genuinely supported to succeed and grow in my role.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
- Pastoral Support
One of the biggest strengths has been the pastoral support I’ve received. I’ve always had someone to talk to when I’ve needed reassurance, guidance or help balancing my workload with my studies. The team takes the time to check in on my wellbeing, not just my academic progress, and they create a safe space where I can raise questions or concerns openly. This has helped me manage pressure, stay motivated and feel confident that my personal development is valued.
- Structured, Well‑Organised Apprenticeship Framework
The apprenticeship programme at RWT is well structured, with clear expectations, milestones and reviews that help me understand exactly where I am and what I need to achieve. Regular progress meetings, planned check‑ins and access to guidance materials ensure the programme runs smoothly and remains manageable alongside my workload. The structure makes it easier to stay focused, meet deadlines and continually reflect on my development as I move through my CMDA.
- Academic and Practical Guidance
The Apprenticeships Team has supported me with:
*understanding academic requirements
*planning my off‑the‑job training
*preparing for assignments
*connecting my on-the-job experience with the CMDA academic modules
They’ve helped me recognise how my day‑to‑day responsibilities link directly to the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for my apprenticeship. This has made my learning more meaningful and helped me apply theory to practice with confidence.
- Encouragement and Professional Development
I’ve been encouraged to stretch myself, take on new responsibilities and reflect on my growth. The team celebrates progress, provides constructive feedback and pushes me to reach my full potential. They are committed to helping apprentices build long‑term careers within the Trust, and their belief in my abilities has strengthened my confidence and motivation.
- Accessible, Approachable Support
The Apprenticeships Team is always approachable, quick to respond and willing to help with any issues — whether practical, administrative or personal. Knowing I can access support at any time has removed a lot of the stress that can come with balancing work and study. Their open-door approach makes me feel valued and supported, not just as an apprentice but as a member of the organisation
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
- Academic Support
Arden provides clear module guidance, detailed learning materials and accessible online resources that make it easier to understand each topic and prepare for assignments. The tutors break down complex concepts and explain how they apply to real‑life workplace situations, which helps me make meaningful links between theory and my role at RWT.
- Tutor Engagement & Feedback
My tutors are supportive, approachable and quick to respond when I need help or clarification. I receive constructive feedback on my assignments that helps me identify strengths and areas for development, and this has improved both my academic writing and my confidence. Their feedback is always practical and focused on helping me progress.
- Regular Check‑ins & Progress Review
Arden schedules regular check‑ins to review my learning, discuss any challenges and help me stay on track with my deadlines. These sessions are structured but supportive, making it easier to plan my workload and stay organised throughout each module.
- Flexible Learning
One of the biggest benefits is the flexibility Arden offers, especially through their online platform. I can access workshops, recorded sessions, reading materials and academic support at times that work around my job. This flexibility makes it much more manageable to balance study with full‑time work.
- Skills Development
Arden also supports me with developing wider academic and professional skills such as:
*academic writing
*critical thinking
*time management
*reflective practice
*research and referencing
These skills have made a real difference to my confidence and my ability to complete assignments to a high standard.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
- Stronger Leadership and Communication
I’ve learnt how to communicate more effectively with learners, managers and education partners. The apprenticeship has helped me build confidence in leading conversations, giving guidance and handling challenging situations more calmly and professionally. This has made my work with departments and learners much more effective.
- Better Organisation and Time Management
Balancing work, study and deadlines has pushed me to become far more organised. I plan my time better, prioritise tasks clearly and work more efficiently. These improved habits have made a real difference in managing placements, supporting learners and meeting Trust expectations.
- Greater Understanding of Organisational Behaviour
The apprenticeship has helped me understand how large organisations like RWT operate—how decisions are made, how teams work together and how change is managed. This broader perspective allows me to navigate my role more effectively and support learners with a deeper understanding of the Trust.
- Improved Problem‑Solving and Decision-Making
The CMDA has developed my ability to analyse situations, think critically and make informed decisions. Whether it’s resolving a learner issue, supporting a department, or planning a complex placement schedule, I now feel more confident in my judgement and approach.
- Applying Theory to Real Practice
One of the most valuable parts is being able to apply academic learning directly to real scenarios in my role. Modules on leadership, coaching, reflective practice and project management have helped me approach my day‑to‑day work with more structure, clarity and purpose.
- More Confidence Supporting and Developing Others
Because I understand the theory behind leadership and development, I feel more capable of supporting learners’ progression, offering guidance and contributing to early‑careers pathways. It’s helped me see how my role fits into the wider workforce strategy.
- Increased Professional Confidence
Overall, the apprenticeship has made me more confident in myself and my abilities. I feel more capable when working with senior staff, handling complex tasks and representing the Trust with education partners.
