Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am a level 3 Broadcast and Media Systems technical operator, and my role involves doing the technical operation, for me mainly sound but can be camera operation, floor managing, and other technical roles across various programming. The scheme is currently linked with the National Film and Television School where I have completed around 3 months of university training in 1- 2 week blocks across the apprenticeship.
Varied days and on the job hours mean that there is no regular "day to day" but this keeps my work fresh and I have the chance to work across many programmes and stations.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
This apprenticeship scheme gave me the chance to go straight from my A-levels to getting in-industry experience of broadcast, which is an absolutely amazing opportunity. That paired with the level of training provided makes this scheme a brilliant way to get into sound and technical operation at entry level.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
This was the first time I was able to get hands-on experience with so many areas of technical operation, and both the in-house training at BBC facilities and external NFTS training were pivotal in my development of my skillset.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
This is a new scheme so there's been some changes across the time I've been here, but this will even out for future cohorts.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I have monthly check-ins with my line manager to discuss what I'm up to, what I'd like more experience with and my future progression options.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I get check ins with my line manager as well as other people across the BBC for different insight on my progression. I feel really well supported in that.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
A lot of the theory behind what I'm doing has come from my university training.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
The BBC has loads of staff networks both apprentice based and otherwise from BBC pride to run clubs and neurodivergent networks.
