Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role is incredibly varied. I work with media operations and I spend a lot of my time in television galleries operating on sound, lighting, technical co-ording and so much more. There is no ‘day to day’ as some days I’ve been up on the roof operating cameras for a live broadcast, and other days I’ve been down inside the studio prepping for a special.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I absolutely love it. My team is patient and kind and I have learnt so much in my time so far.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes! I never thought I’d be operating cameras for live broadcast and the training and support is incredible! I have so much new knowledge and everyone is so supportive and happy to teach.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
It’s incredibly organised. My time at my BBC base is varied and seamless, working with multiple departments. I love my time at NFTS training and the whole course is designed to make us confident and able to work independently.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I am offered check ins and 1-2-1s with my line manager and my apprenticeship team and I’m constantly surrounded by support. We also complete reviews to make sure we are on track and the whole team will offer us extra time/ space/ training if we need it.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The support from my training provider is invaluable. Even outside course time I’m able to reach out and ask any questions that may crop up in my workplace. I feel very supported.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I can confidently say I’m training to become the best I can be and I absolutely believe my qualification will open doors and allow me to perform to the best of my ability in my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes! I’m part of the LGBT BBC and it’s wonderful. There is lots of opportunities for extra curricular activities including apprentice and staff socials, networking events and more.
