Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I lead a team of 30 across different sites, cleaning offices, hangers, gyms, accommodation, stores and retail and dining units for the Military of Defence. I am also responsible for ensuring the sub contractors who look after the laundry and tailors for the site are working appropriately as well as looking after the waste for the site.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I am thoroughly enjoying the Level 5 Diploma in management and leadership that I am on!
I’ll be honest — I was very nervous about starting this. I didn’t go to university, and I haven’t written an essay since high school, so the thought of jumping back into learning to complete a foundation degree, felt huge! But after hearing everyone say “you’ll smash it,” I pulled up my big‑girl pants 😂 and went for it… and I’m SO glad I did!
The first few weeks were a real shock to the system, but two modules in — with a lot of time‑management lessons along the way — I’m genuinely loving the challenge. The program blends six modules, mixing in‑person sessions, virtual learning, masterclasses, and loads of support in between.
I am part of the first wave of learners and IODA are delivering such a valuable, bespoke experience. I’m learning a lot about myself, how I show up, and how my behaviors impact other

Most definitely. I have learnt so much on how much my behavior can impact others and how the delivery of my communication can make all the difference when trying to inspire and motivate individuals.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

It has been very well organised. Between Compass Group and IODA we are always kept up to date over any changes and they are always asking for feedback so they can adapt if needed.
We have a calendar list of what is expected from us each month and can track things as they are submitted, allowing me to plan my time accordingly.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

I am so grateful to my line manager and senior management team for their encouragement and guidance through my journey so far. I have been entrusted to manage my time as I need to, to ensure that my role on site is not impacted but still be able to complete the course to the best of my ability
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I feel very well supported I am always being asked if i am being supported by my line manager, which I am. We have regular check in's with a monthly surgery session, as well as 3, 6, & 9 month reviews. We are also able to email our coach directly if we have questions with our essay or we can contact Ioda directly if we have an issue with the platform. When ever I have emailed I have always had a response within 24hrs.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

It has absolutely widened my knowledge on leading with impact. I am only 3 months in to my program and feel like i have learnt so much already and my team are benefiting from the new skills I have learnt.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are always webinars available to join around different topics and there are also many charity events that consist of a range of different activities from marathons, to cake sales, to networking events that we can get involved with.

Why?
From my experience the Compass Group looks after their people. I am made to feel like I am much more than just a number. I feel valued and I am listened. I have been lucky enough to be given the opportunity to develop my skills with a career pathway as well as a level 5 apprenticeship, which is going to mold be into the inspiring leader that I have been longing to be.

Do it! Be yourself and show your passion, you won't regret it!
