Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I do a number of things such as working along store assistants to put stock out onto the shelves and serve customers on the tills. I also complete management jobs such as marking of deliveries, guiding the team and scanning of waste.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I enjoy working in a team to complete a common goal and keeping the customers happy. This is done through giving them good customer service and making them feel heard, the job however can feel repetitive doing the same thing day in and day out.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have become a lot more confident due to my exposure to the general public and having to work in a team of people, I also feel like I have gained people skills and feel more suited to dealing with different situations such as distress and confusion. I have learnt skills to do with technology as multiple different parts of equipment need to be used to keep control of the store.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
There was an idea of a plan but however I didn't feel like it was very structured this was due to me having 4 different coaches over the course of 3 years, due to this I didn't receive much face to face learning which is better suited to me. I was given coaches who were based far from me in places like Liverpool so it was difficult for them to visit. I struggled to stay motivated and wanting to learn due to the fact that most of the learning was online which felt very tedious at times, it felt more like a remembering game rather than a learning experience. I was given lots of different knowledge to retain which didn't apply to my in store working so I found it difficult to relate.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
It was very easy to contact my coach and ask questions when needed towards the end of the programme and people in store were very helpful and eager to lend a hand. I just didn't like the way I had to teach myself everything by reading it off a screen then relaying it back to the screen.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The coaches are helpful and willing to help out when needed so I would say that I received enough support.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
I feel like the qualifications helps me to find more Jobs just like it as they will be able to see I have passed and have the experience, but I feel like my work in store and with the other members of the management team was more beneficial to my job role. Rather than just reading the policy's I have seen how they are treated in first hand experiences which is a lot more memorable and beneficial.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
Staff members at work will go out to do bowling or meet up for a big event such as someone leaving or festive holidays like Christmas, but apart from that lifetime haven't offered anything for me in terms of activities.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Aldi to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I believe that Aldi is a very good work place as it is the highest paying supermarket with flexible hours, I would say that it is very hard work and isn't for everyone. However I would say that the apprenticeship is not worth the time, this is down to the fact that it would be much quicker to progress in the company by starting out a store assistant and applying for deputy manager. As I have seen many people reach this position within a year of being in the business where as I have had to do 3 years.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aldi?
Make sure that you are ready for the heavy work load, but apart from that it is very good job working in a team together to make sure that the store is in a good position for the customers.
