As a Warehouse Operations Area Manager I am responsible for the training and development of our Warehouse management team, alongside leading continuous improvement throughout the Warehouse. I also sit on a working group responsible for Transport Operations within Regions.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I am in the middle of completing the L5 Improvement Specialist Apprenticeship through the Blue Lion Training Academy. The programme is perfect for my role when it comes to continuous improvement and LEAN operations. The training is really well structured and I am learning plenty of tools / methods which can help in driving performance across the Warehouse.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt lots of new skills throughout the Apprenticeship. A lot of what we have covered revolves around project management, and the analysis and presentation of data for use in making true data driven decisions.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

Really well structured! The majority of training is given via MS Teams, so you can complete it anywhere so long as you have your laptop on hand! We also have 10-weekly check-ins with my Direct Leader and training provider to make sure we are all aware exactly where I sit on the programme, ensuring I stay on track throughout the Apprenticeship. All training is tracked through Bud - an online learning platform, meaning keeping track of your progress is super easy!
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer has been really supportive from day 1. The Apprenticeship fits in really well wit my day-to-day job, so having time to complete all project work has never been in doubt. Also given the opportunity to use my new skills to influence both regional and national teams.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The Training provider has been excellent! My tutor is always on hand to provide extra support when required, either through emails, teams messages, or additional calls / training sessions. Also gives me clear feedback on my portfolio, giving advice on what to add or what to change to ensure I pass my end point assessment.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

For sure the skills I have learnt and qualification that I will (hopefully!) get help me to be better in my role. Given data analysis and interpretation is part of my day-to-day job, having additional tools and skills to use here has helped a lot! I now think about improvement projects and data in a much more structured manner, and feel confident in analysing and presenting it to peers.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

The team I work with are fantastic! We have great relationships both in and out of work. Despite having busy lives, we do find the time to meet up occasionally.

Why?
Its a great place to work! I've now been with Aldi for over 12 years and worked in 4 different roles, everyone one of which I have really enjoyed - really grateful to have had so many opportunities! It sounds cliche, but the people really do make it a great place to be.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aldi?
Be yourself, be positive, and get stuck in!
