Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

During the course of the first year Level 2 retailer programme, you swiftly learn and get to grips with all aspects of the shop floor, from filling and stocking the shelves to operating the tills. The role is varied and fast paced but also very rewarding. There is a great sense of pride in the mornings after starting at 5am filling the entire shops shelves and the shop opening ready for customers at 8am. The role requires you to fulfil a mix of shifts both early and late in the evening, but no matter the shift, you’ll always have something to do to keep you busy, this could involve working stock, operating tills, date checking products, or just keeping the store clean and tidy. As an apprentice, you also receive paid time dedicated to allowing you to complete your coursework that will contribute to how you perform and develop in role.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I’m very lucky to have a supportive management team around me who are dedicated to helping me progress through my apprenticeship and develop in my role. I believe that the close knit team nature of Aldi’s operation contributes to the fulfillment and enjoyment I gain from the job.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

The combination of physically working on the shop floor and being able to apply the theory work to the ways in which I carry out my role each day has dramatically grown my confidence on the shop floor and my broader understanding of workings of retail as a whole.

Coursework is organized by flexible deadlines and I receive regular check ins from the apprenticeship provider as well as my direct leader on my progress.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My direct leader and allocated trainer strive to push me in every possible way to achieve and provide feedback on both my theoretical and practical work.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Always an email or teams call away should support be required, organized regular check ins and progress reviews. In addition to this feedback is constant with feedback being swiftly provided with every piece of work submitted.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Ongoing continuous support and guidance throughout programme to steer me in the right direction as well as help me to understand how I can apply what I’ve learnt within my role.
