Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am involved in the procurement of packages which involves the creation of legal documents and meetings with subcontractors to agree prices and scope. I also pay subcontractors by valuing their works in a specific period and agreeing on a fair payment for those works. I am also involved in creating price estimates for works on site which then helps inform subcontractors on what the works involve allowing them to provide a quote which we can compare against the price I developed.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
My programme is informative and offers a lot of support I have a mentor through the business and the large number of other apprentices helps me to learn new things and take their advice as they have experienced the same things first hand. The programme also provides great experience of the industry and gives you responsibilities from early which incentivises your work and makes it more enjoyable and meaningful.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed my technology skills further as I have become more proficient in the formatting and creation of excel documents, my communication skills have improved through email and in person as I have been exposed to interactions with clients and subcontractors. This has also been helped by taking part in social value activities for national apprenticeship week in which I gave a talk to 3 year groups at a secondary school which has vastly improved my confidence in public speaking.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme follows the university modules well and helps me tick off important milestones for my apprenticeship, on top of this I have a structured plan to give me more responsibility and I am aware of things I need to improve and learn in order to do this.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
There are many points of contact for support about work or any issues relating to this which I may have. Whilst I have not had experience with any other forms of support the business holds monthly health and wellbeing themes which are promoted throughout the month and also has mental health first aiders within the company.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I have reviews every 12 weeks which allows me to set targets in both my university and workplace learning and helps me build foundations for later on in my apprenticeship and my later career. The lectures offer support and guidance for all modules and all information is added to the blackboard website to help encourage revision and allow for any missed lectures to be caught up on.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I have learnt many key processes whilst at university which help me to understand why certain things are done in the workplace such as the law lecture which focused on contracts thorough and as a result allowed me to have more confidence when drafting the contracts later down the line. I have also learnt about building technology which has improved my understanding of quotations as I am aware of what is needed in certain situations and what isn’t allowing me to be more productive in my role and less reliant on others for clarifications.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are many social value activities to take part in, as referenced earlier I took part in a presentation which focused on mine and a colleagues journey to becoming an apprentice. During national apprenticeship week I also participated in an apprentice day where we learned useful skills in photography alongside all apprentices in the north east region this allowed us to network and I met many individuals who I had not had chance to speak to before.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Vinci to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The company offers comprehensive support and has a network of individuals who offer help whenever it is needed. They allow you to try new things and offer advice instead of criticism if a mistake is made, the company is also made up of many senior members who completed apprenticeships within the business and are now in senior roles which provides inspiration to new apprentices like myself and also shows the business rewards individuals who are successful within their roles.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Vinci?
Research the company and see what area of the business you would like to move into as there are many opportunities in areas that you may have never heard of.
