Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Quantity Surveying: market testing/procurement (creating scopes, contacting subcontractors), payment assessments/valuations (checking invoices and measuring actual work done)
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
Learning lots about construction and quantity surveying. Support from the team and the company is good. They encourage questions to be asked, teach you how something works and why, give you lots of work to do. You're not just shadowing people but you are an actual part of the team with your own responsibilities.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
University gives you the technical knowledge, as well as what you learn from being onsite. I've learnt lots at work including valuations, measuring, and more. You learn something new everyday.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
University once a week - they give us specific requirements of knowledge, skills, and behaviours to be learnt. These are all skills involved in the day to day work of a QS. You are given monthly responsibilities and learn lots at work.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
HR provides training sessions, site team are willing to explain things, and my line manager is great at teaching me how to do something then giving me the responsibilities.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Meeting every 3 months to check progress. Online portal to manage records, and a training session was provided on how to use it.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Building my technical knowledge, which helps understand what services we require and what we are paying for.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Lots of things provided. Currently setting up a day where all UK apprentices across the company can meet.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Vinci to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Support is good, learning lots about the different roles in construction and how things are built. You are involved in high value technical projects, and exposed to a variety of projects across the UK. Salary and benefits are also quite good.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Vinci?
Show that you are enthusiastic about what we do. You don't necessarily have to know a lot about construction just that you want to learn. Do your research on the company and the different delegations, and about the role you are applying for, as well as some examples of interesting projects we've completed.
