Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role has varied throughout the time i have been here, but it began with assisting project managers on projects by helping them with admin and coordination tasks, so I could get to grips with the Project Management. As time has gone on, I was given more and more responsibility, eventually running my own smaller scale projects. These projects ranged from implementing new softwares, to ensuring global security compliance.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoyed my programme due to many different reasons. First and main reason would be the people, who are really supportive throughout the company, whether that is the early careers team, or my immediate team. Second reason would the opportunities, as from the start I was given the opportunity to take on more and more responsibility all dependant on my own ambition to do so. Finally, it would be the general personal growth. When i came into Computacenter, I was very nervous and didn't know what to expect but through the responsibility i was given and projects I was assigned to, I gained confidence so quickly, eventually leading project calls individually which I thought I could have never done.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
There are many different skills involved in project management. Some of the main skills I have developed would be communication and people skills, organisation, time management, and prioritisation. This is what I like about this role, i have learn so many new skills and developed existing ones, and these are all transferable skills which can be used for any role or even in personal life.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
My programme was relatively well structured with a separation from my day-to-day work life, and the training provided. My work with Computacenter was well structured with clear progression and next steps, however, the training provided was sometimes confusing with all requirements and timelines for assessments and exams.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
A high level of support was provided by my manager and team. I had a mentor throughout my apprenticeship who helped with everything i needed, whether that is issues on projects and just general advice. My manager was very helpful if i had any issues with the work i was doing or with any general problems, and always listened to me when explaining my ambitions and goals.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The support was good, with a dedicated Training and Development officer who was always helpful when i had questions about my course and was very knowledgeable with all thing project management. We had regular catch ups and progress reviews which kept me on track and ahead of all work. One negative would be that some dates and timelines on completion of assessments were confusing and left me with slight uncertainty.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I think overall, the qualification does benefit my role and i can see similarities with project management within Computacenter compared to the training received. However, it can be confusing as we use different project management methodologies so I had to make sure I separate work from training at times.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are many different extra curricular activities to get involved in. Some are organised by Computacenter, like, 5 aside tournaments for Black History Month, and volunteering outreach to schools, which provided me with new and exciting experiences. Then there is also a lot of employee organised events, whether that be team dinners and night outs, to pool and topgolf evenings, a long with wellbeing mornings with breakfast provided.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Computacenter to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Computacenter is such a great place to work, i think especially for a young person coming into their first corporate role. This is down to the extremely fostering environment and the high level of support provided from everyone at all levels, including the early careers team who ensure that you are happy an supported throughout the programme. There is also endless opportunities dependent on your own ambition and goals, including moving to different roles internally if you wanted.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Computacenter?
If you want a job at Computacenter in any role throughout the business, I would say be yourself and let you personality shine through, because at the end of the day you are coming into an entry level role and they dont expect you to know anything, all they ask is that you show a willingness to learn and be a team player.
