Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I’m responsible for the operational and commercial performance of a 17-site national portfolio, making sure premium food and service standards are consistently delivered across a range of B&I and hospitality environments. A big part of my role is mobilising new contracts end-to-end, covering kitchen design, procurement, compliance, recruitment, onboarding, and full operational launch.
I work closely with senior stakeholders at client and board level and have built strong relationships with high-profile chefs and partners including Michel Roux, Bryn Williams, Jason Atherton, and Sabrina Ghayour. Alongside this, I focus on building and mentoring strong operational teams through structured development, clear expectations, and succession planning.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy the programme to a great extent. It feels directly relevant to my role and provides useful structure and perspective around the commercial, operational, and leadership challenges I deal with day to day. I particularly value how it links theory to real workplace application, which helps me step back from day-to-day delivery and think more strategically about how I operate and lead across the business. The workload is manageable alongside my role, and I’ve found the content engaging, especially where it connects to business strategy, people development, and operational performance.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes. The MBA has strengthened my strategic, analytical, and commercial awareness, particularly through applying frameworks such as PESTEL, Porter’s Five Forces, VRIO, and RBV to real operational challenges within my organisation. It has improved my ability to critically analyse business environments and translate insight into practical decisions. My analytical skills have developed through structured research and evaluation in my dissertation work, while my commercial awareness has deepened through financial modelling and strategic assessment of the hybrid bakery concept for Restaurant Associates. Overall, it has enhanced my confidence in linking theory to commercial and operational decision-making.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme at Aston University is very well organised and structured. The modules are clearly sequenced, which helps build knowledge progressively from core theory through to applied strategic thinking. There is a good balance between taught content, independent research, and practical application, particularly through assignments that link directly to real workplace challenges. The dissertation process is also well supported, with clear guidance and milestones that help maintain focus and momentum. Overall, the structure feels coherent and purposeful, making it easier to connect academic learning with my role in industry.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a high level of support from my employer. They have actively enabled me to balance my MBA at Aston University alongside my full-time role, providing flexibility where needed for study time, coursework deadlines, and research activity. I’ve also been supported through access to relevant business information, internal data, and opportunities to align my assignments with real operational challenges within the organisation. In addition, my role has been adapted at times to allow me to apply learning directly in practice, which has made the programme more relevant and impactful.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive a good level of support from Aston University throughout my MBA. The programme is well structured with clear guidance on each module, assessment criteria, and expectations, which helps keep me on track. Tutors are accessible and responsive when I need clarification or feedback, particularly during assignment preparation and dissertation development. There is also strong support through learning materials, online resources, and structured milestones for major pieces of work. Overall, the support provided has been consistent and helpful in enabling me to manage the academic demands alongside a full-time senior role.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My MBA at Aston University has had a strong positive impact on my performance in my role. It has helped me think more strategically and commercially, particularly when assessing operational performance, developing food concepts, and making more informed business decisions. It has also improved my confidence in presenting business cases, leading change, and linking operational decisions to wider commercial outcomes. Overall, the qualification directly enhances how I approach leadership, strategy, and day-to-day decision-making in my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, there are several extra-curricular and wider engagement activities I’m involved in through work. This includes supporting charitable initiatives such as Cook for Good and the Borough Food Cooperative, where we contribute food, skills, and operational support to community-focused programmes. I also take part in internal wellbeing and engagement activity as a mental health ambassador, helping to promote awareness and support across teams. In addition, there are opportunities to be involved in industry networking events and supplier-led showcases, which support professional development and knowledge sharing beyond day-to-day operational work.
