Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
On my site, Apprentices start with site services for the first year and then 3 years in maintenance. With that being said, i’m still on site services, in a nut shell, we do everything to do with site, we open up our system where people can raise jobs and we go through them daily, could be something simple like, putting signs up, or more complex like working on steam systems. Most importantly we carry out compliance checks on a daily/weekly basis, this consists of but not limited to: boiler checks, pumps, compressors and more. As an apprentice, i’m paired with a qualified engineer who teaches me everything in-depth and shows me how to do the job, it was a bit overwhelming at the beginning because there is so much to learn but I was given confidence from my colleagues and managers who informed me on multiple occasions that i’m not expected to be able to carry out the job by myself for the first couple years, this allows me to focus on learning rather than stressing about not grasping something instantly, certainly feel looked after as an apprentice.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
What I found overwhelming initially turned out to be what i enjoy most and thats the fact I do something different every day which means I get to learn something every day.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Loads! During work I learn something new everyday, for example, about boilers and how they work, about different chemicals and many many more. In college, about Continuous Improvement and many different methodologies, electrical and again many more.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Its great and all makes sense, its certainly done with apprentices in mind, only concern is that Samworth are waiting for confirmation from college about dates so we can’t plan our holidays too far in advance but on the other hand, my managers always accept my holidays and are very understanding.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
As much as I need.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Mostly perfect aside from a lecturer or too, but overall very positive.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I feel like I learn mostly at work not at college but college lets the knowledge sink in and ensure I grasp it in depth.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, loads.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Samworth Brothers to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Because I feel looked after with a competitive salary and benefits, in fact I already recommended to 2 of my friends for next year because vacancies are up.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Samworth Brothers?
Have confidence and will to learn because thats all you need, everything will be provided to you as long as you have the will.
