Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Samworth Brothers?
In my first six months, I have learnt a wide range of skills and have had the chance to take ownership of my own work. I feel motivated to make a difference in my role as I am assigned projects that can bring real benefit. I am well-supported and feel free to ask questions to colleagues.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
I am moving around 4 different 6-month placements across the Technical department. I have completed my first 6 months in the Compliance team, where I have carried out projects that will bring long-term benefit beyond my placement. I enjoy this aspect of the role, as it makes each day feel different.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
5/5
I have my set tasks which I can cover for other team members. I have been able to support multiple other departments outside of my own, including the Operations and Training departments.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
5/5
I feel very well paid for the job that I do and for my experience level. Samworth also offer a wide range of benefits, some of which have a minor quality of life effect but others that are more significant e.g. profit-related pay, private healthcare scheme.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
5/5
Gaining experience in four different Technical roles will give me a wide base of expertise to use through my career. This will help me to determine an area to specialise in once I finish the scheme, as well as helping me to work cross-departmentally where possible.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
5/5
I have been assigned on a range of formal training courses, and my role has given me a good base understanding of how a food manufacturing business operates, which is something that I will build on as I progress through the scheme.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
5/5
My line manager is very supportive and helps to guide and coach me in my work. I am also assigned with a buddy, who checks in with me every once in a while, as well a senior business mentor who gives me different perspectives on issues and gives me insight into leadership.
How is your work-life balance?
5/5
There is no pressure to work extra hours in my role, and my work rarely 'follows me home'.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
5/5
The values are clearly laid out, even before being offered a job. The atmosphere is more family-based than what I have been used to and largely feels like a supportive community.
How would you rate Samworth Brothers initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
4/5
Mandatory inductions are given to all staff for these topics.
How would you rate Samworth Brothers CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
5/5
The company has an impactful charity / foundation, and newsletters are often sent out highlighting the impact that they have in communities. It also seems like they have also recently stepped up the way that they address their environmental impact.
