Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
As a project controller, my role is to build and maintain a project's schedule, manage resources such as hours and money attached to activities. On a day to day basis this involves running reports to see if there are many negative variances in the projects, then investigating what is going on to fix these. There may also be various tasks assigned by the project manager to raise purchase reqs and material demands within the project.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
Leonardo is very flexible with working, giving us 2 days a week off to complete our uni assignments and also allowing for flexi time so that are work schedule can fit more around us. They also give us lots of responsibility with our work and have been very supportive with my training throughout my time here so far.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
My excel skills have developed well as I have had to use it with most of the tasks I carry out. I have also developed my skills in the planning software SAP. Throughout my time here my understanding of how the business works has gotten much better, especially in the production side of things.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is structured very well with roations occuring every 6 months for 5 times, after this you select the one that you want to go to for your final 1.5 year placement. I think this works really well as it gives you a taste of the different sectors within the business and how they operate to finally decide where you want to go to for what suits you the most.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
The 2 days given for uni work is very generous and the apprentice manager is extremely supportive with our work life balance, mental support or any other requirements needed from an apprentice. Managers and work based mentors are also very supportive, they will always tell you to ask as many questions no matter how stupid they may sound to you and the information given from them is invaluable to progress in your career.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Strathclyde give plenty support with the learning advisors being logged on daily 9-5 to support with any uni questions you may have, there is also an on-campus day roughly once a month to see the lecturers and go through some parts of the course.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I think some of it is pretty dependant, for example learning about somethign such as marketing will help some people on the course but doesn't really benefit someone in my role much. This is because the degree is very generic, covering all parts of business. Even though it isn't exactly tailored to the role, it is still interesting and beneficial to learn about all parts of business.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There is activities within the apprentice group such as the weekly lunchtime football, there is also career development events and sector/team meetups outside of work. Overall, there could be more variety.
