Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
I was developing Diversity and Inclusion training for Tesco colleagues, creating a resource which could be referred to by them as and when was needed. I collated all the information and worked with different individuals across different work levels, and teams from across the business, to decide the essential information to include, and how it would appear in the resource. I also assisted in coordinating plans for National Inclusion Week.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was surprised by how much responsibility was given to me as an intern. I enjoyed the fact that I was trusted to get on with my projects, but also had the freedom to ask as many questions as I needed!

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I had plenty of support. I had weekly 1-2-1s with my line manager and another senior member of the team. We also had weekly check-ins with all the interns and a half-way point check in with the internship coordinator. I had a buddy who was on the graduate scheme too, who I went for coffee with and could contact whenever I needed to. Everyone, not even just in my team, but the wider business too, was happy to help whenever I had a question.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Very welcoming and friendly, which surprised me for such a big business. Everyone was happy to help each other and give advice whenever they were asked. We had team events, and social events for the interns. The interns also had to do a charity challenge which helped us all to bond and work together.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I enjoyed my placement a lot. The team I worked with were great and helped me to settle in fast. I was busy with my projects but I liked that and I liked that I had something tangible to show for my efforts after I left. All of the interns were lovely and we had plenty of opportunities to socialise throughout the internship.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Tesco plc to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to Tesco plc
The application process has quite a few stages but none of them are as intimidating as you'd think! Day 1 and 2 of the internship are induction days for the interns, so you can get to know the interns really well and you're not thrown straight into the world of work!
