Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role is in the Pre-Construction team, my role combines practical on the job experience whilst also including structured academic leaning through university. I support Bid Managers and the Bid Team whilst assisting the coordination of Bid related communications, supporting the preparation of tender submissions..
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I absolutely love my job, the work, team and the environment is so motivating. Having that feeling that my work really makes a difference is a great feeling. The experience to also go to University is amazing, not feeling like I'm missing out on the University experience. The practical knowledge I'm learning from working hands on is brilliant, its the way I learn, getting stuck in with work, new work with the guidance of my team. It feels so rewarding.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Before starting this role I had very little to no understanding of construction, let alone pre - construction, this role has really developed my skills and understanding of construction and the project lifecycle, my people management skills have developed really well, along side small things like my skills with IT - Excel, PowerPoint and Microsoft Projects. Kier is the place to learn and try new things, and thas exactly what I'm doing with the full support of my team.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
It is structured well, having time to spend with the team doing on the job tasks that help develop practical skills, but also having the time once a week to focus on my own development is great. Having the time to complete University work or spend time expanding my knowledge on a certain subject is a great feeling. Additionally having the week away a University is great, it takes you away from work but still keeps you developing, It's also a great time to meet other's who work for Kier that you may not meet during actual work.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive all the support I need, having structured meetings with my manager to discuss development and where I may need extra support in is great, I also receive support and development though others in the business like the Emerging Talent team who are excellent in providing knowledge and development ideas and resources. Additionally I know that if I need anything there's always someone just a call or a message away so having that is great.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive lots of emails of advice in how to complete assignments and modules, I get shown a lot of resources to use and I know they're only an email away if I need any support.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I work in pre construction so I don't always see the actually construction side, the University helps me develop this knowledge which is vital to my role because that knowledge is still needed even if its not always used for my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There is plenty of options at Kier, and its great for any person from any background. There is always something for someone.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Kier Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Kier is great, they really are enthusiasts about development of there own people, the Kier people are great and they really do want the best for others around them. I feel like there is a role for everyone somewhere in Kier and would highly recommend anyone to have a look at the website.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Kier Group?
Expand your knowledge on Kier, 3 things I would advice gaining knowledge on is the 9 healthy behaviours and see how they tie into your beliefs and goals, projects which Kier has built in the past or currently building, is there any near you that inspired you or that you like the look off. Finally, I would say just be yourself, if you're applying for apprenticeships Kier aren't always looking for the person with the most experience in that role, there actually looking for the right person, someone with the right attitude and wants to learn, if you show that you will have a really good chance.
