Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I developed the majority of my knowledge, skills and understanding at Mace Construct. The day-to-day role was more useful in upskilling me as an individual than University. I developed both 'hard' skills such as how to perform my role, as well as 'soft' skills such as communication, networking and interpersonal skills.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Monthly 'away from the office' learning days undertaken either online or at head office.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Dedicated head office team and great organisation of socials etc. to aid with networking.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

LSBU is a large organisation that was constantly changing throughout my time there. I found that when I actively sought it out, support was there. It was not readily available/accessible to the masses, though.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The qualification helped to consolidate learning and was useful at times in giving me a 'preview' of things I would later undertake at work. However, modules such as measurement 1 and documentation, advanced measurement and quantity surveying project are all antiquated and are not adapted for 21st century surveying! The use of dimension paper and centre lines are not common practice and are studied for 3 years at the university.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Mace Construct is a large company with a near-infinite talent pool of clever, keen professionals who are happy to help foster the careers of a younger generation. The pay was good and I felt as though progression was clearly set out and was achievable.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mace Construct?
