Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I’m an Operations Manager with responsibility for the overall performance of multiple corporate catering contracts. My role is to ensure each site operates efficiently, delivers a high-quality service to clients and guests, and remains commercially and contractually compliant
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy the programme overall and find it valuable, particularly where it links directly to real-world operational and commercial challenges in my role. The content around leadership, financial management and decision-making is relevant and practical, and I can apply a lot of the learning immediately in my day-to-day work.
That said, my workload across multiple sites can make it challenging at times to stay fully on top of deadlines and engagement, especially during peak operational periods. When I’m able to dedicate focused time to it, the programme is genuinely beneficial and supports my development as an operations manager.
In short, I do enjoy it, and I see clear value in it — the main challenge is balancing it alongside a demanding operational role rather than the programme itself

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, I have both learned new skills and further developed existing ones through the programme.
In particular, I’ve strengthened my financial and analytical skills, especially around interpreting P&Ls, understanding variances, and using data to support decisions rather than relying solely on operational instinct. I’ve also developed my leadership and communication skills, becoming more structured in how I manage performance conversations, set expectations, and influence stakeholders.
The programme has also helped me improve my planning and prioritisation, particularly in balancing short-term operational demands with longer-term strategic thinking. Overall, it’s reinforced skills I use daily while sharpening how I apply them in a more consistent and considered way.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is generally well organised and clearly structured, with defined modules, learning objectives, and supporting materials that make it easy to understand what’s expected at each stage.
That said, the structure works best when timelines, session dates, and submission deadlines are clearly communicated well in advance. During busier operational periods, having that forward visibility makes a big difference to staying on track. Overall, the framework of the programme is strong — any challenges tend to be around timing and alignment with operational workloads rather than the structure of the programme itself.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a good level of support from my employer overall. The programme is encouraged, and there’s a clear understanding of the value it brings to my development and to the business. My line management team is supportive in principle and recognises the importance of the qualification.
In practice, the main challenge is balancing the programme alongside a demanding operational role with responsibility for multiple sites. While flexibility is given where possible, operational priorities do sometimes limit the time I can dedicate to coursework during working hours. That said, support is available when needed, and there is openness to discussions around workload and deadlines when pressures are particularly high.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive a good level of support from the training provider. Tutors are accessible, responsive, and willing to offer guidance when I raise questions or need clarification on assignments or learning outcomes.
Additional support sessions and check-ins are helpful when I’m able to attend, and feedback is constructive and clear, which helps me understand where I need to improve. As with any programme, timing can be a challenge alongside a busy operational role, but overall the support available is strong and I feel comfortable reaching out when I need help progressing toward the qualification.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel the qualification supports my role well and has a positive impact on how I perform day to day. The learning reinforces best practice around leadership, financial control, and decision-making, which are all central to my role as an operations manager.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, there are opportunities to get involved in extra-curricular activities at work. These mainly come through internal networking events, leadership forums, and company-led initiatives that bring teams together across different sites and functions. There are also social events linked to major business milestones, team celebrations, and end-of-year or seasonal activities.
