Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
What I particularly enjoyed was:
✔ Learning that connected directly to my day‑to‑day job
✔ Growing personally and professionally - Completing the programme with Distinction for Project proposal was one of my proudest achievements.
✔ Support from tutors and colleagues - Having structured support, regular check‑ins, and encouragement both at work and from my tutor made the journey enjoyable and manageable.
✔ Feeling valued and capable - Winning Apprentice of the Month for June and receiving positive feedback boosted my motivation and showed me that my hard work was recognised.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
New skills I learned
Project management: I learned how to plan, structure and deliver a workplace project, which I successfully demonstrated in my end‑point assessment.
Process improvement: I gained the ability to analyse existing admin processes and identify ways to make them more efficient — something I applied directly in my HR role (e.g., streamlining the collection of ILR share codes).
Professional presentation skills: Preparing and delivering my project presentation helped me develop strong communication and presenting abilities.
Stakeholder management: I learned how to work more effectively with managers, colleagues, and external partners by understanding their needs and communicating clearly.
The apprenticeship played a major role in developing me both professionally and personally. It gave me practical skills that I now use every day in HR administration, boosted my confidence, and prepared me for future career progression.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?
✔ Clear learning pathway
The apprenticeship was broken down into logical units that built on each other. Each module had clear outcomes, resources, and activities, so I always understood what I was expected to learn and why it was relevant to my role.
✔ Regular tutor support and reviews
I had consistent support through scheduled reviews, progress check‑ins, and clear feedback from my tutor. This structure helped me understand my strengths and areas to improve, and it kept me motivated.
✔ Well‑designed combination of theory and workplace practice
The programme balanced learning with practical application very effectively. Everything I studied could be directly applied to my HR role — from communication and organisation to compliance and project work. This made the structure feel purposeful, not just academic.
✔ Good preparation for the end‑point assessment (EPA)
EPA preparation was organised with mock sessions, examples, and guidance. The structure helped me feel confident when completing my project presentation and professional discussion, ultimately contributing to achieving Distinction.
✔ Flexibility for work and personal commitments
The programme was structured enough to guide my progress but flexible enough that I could manage learning alongside my HR duties and family responsibilities after maternity leave.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
✔ Supportive line managers and team
My managers have been very supportive throughout the programme. They allowed me protected time for my off‑the‑job training, encouraged me to work towards my targets, and checked in regularly to make sure I was managing both my role and my learning effectively.
✔ Encouragement and recognition
I felt consistently encouraged in my role — for example, receiving Apprentice of the Month and positive feedback for the efforts I made in improving HR processes. This recognition boosted my confidence and motivated me to complete the programme with Distinction.
✔ Opportunities to apply learning in the workplace
My employer gave me many opportunities to apply what I was learning, such as:
managing onboarding documentation
improving compliance processes
supporting employee engagement
leading tasks independently
This practical experience was essential for my development.
✔ Flexibility & understanding of personal commitments
After returning from maternity leave, I received understanding and flexibility, which helped me balance work, learning, and family responsibilities while still progressing well in my apprenticeship.
✔ Access to resources and guidance
I received support in accessing systems, HR processes, and documentation needed for my project work and EPA preparation. Colleagues were always willing to help answer questions or clarify procedures.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
✔ Regular one‑to‑one sessions and reviews
My tutor provided structured monthly reviews, check‑ins, and progress meetings, which helped me understand what I needed to focus on and kept me on track. The sessions were always clear, supportive, and tailored to my work environment.
✔ Clear guidance and helpful resources
The training provider offered well‑organised learning materials, examples, templates, and resources that made each module easy to understand. This support helped me link theoretical learning with real‑life HR tasks.
✔ Continuous feedback to improve my skills
I received detailed feedback on my work, which helped me develop my writing, organisation, communication, and project skills. The feedback was always constructive and helped me feel confident that I was progressing in the right direction.
✔ Strong preparation for the End‑Point Assessment (EPA)
The EPA support was excellent. I was given:
mock interviews
practice questions
guidance on my project
tips on presentation skills
examples of what to expect
This structured preparation helped me feel fully ready for my professional discussion and presentation.
✔ Supportive and approachable tutor
My tutor was easy to contact, encouraging, and always willing to explain anything I didn’t understand. This made a big difference, especially when balancing work, studies, and personal commitments.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
✔ Stronger organisational and administrative skills
The modules on planning, prioritising, and managing workloads directly improved how I organise HR tasks such as onboarding, compliance checks, and documentation. I now handle deadlines more efficiently and can manage competing priorities with greater confidence.
✔ Improved communication and professional behaviours
The qualification helped me develop clearer and more effective communication—both written and verbal. This has been especially useful when dealing with new starters, managers, and staff queries. I feel more confident explaining processes and giving accurate information.
✔ Better understanding of compliance and business processes
The training gave me a deeper understanding of policies, data protection, and organisational procedures. In HR, where accuracy and compliance are essential, this has made my work more reliable and aligned with standards.
✔ Increased confidence in handling HR documentation and systems
Through the apprenticeship, I strengthened my IT and digital skills, which helps me work more efficiently with HR systems, spreadsheets, and onboarding documentation. My attention to detail has also improved, which is crucial in compliance-led tasks.
✔ Ability to apply learning to real improvements at work
The programme encouraged me to identify and improve processes. This led me to streamline tasks such as collecting share codes for ILR staff—a change that supported smoother onboarding and compliance.
✔ Enhanced problem‑solving and initiative
I feel more proactive and confident when facing challenges. The qualification helped me understand how to analyse situations, communicate with stakeholders, and make informed decisions—skills I now use daily.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
✔ Employee Engagement Champion
I was elected as an Employee Engagement Champion, which allows me to take part in staff‑focused initiatives, support engagement activities, and contribute ideas to improve morale and teamwork. This role helps me connect with colleagues across different departments and be more involved in the wider culture of the hospital.
✔ Additional workplace project opportunities
As part of my apprenticeship and personal initiative, I was given extra responsibility to work on another project at work, which strengthened my project‑management and problem‑solving skills. These opportunities helped me apply what I learned and gain further experience outside routine tasks.
✔ Prevent training (Safeguarding & Awareness)
I also completed learning on Prevent, which expanded my awareness of safeguarding responsibilities in the workplace. This is not part of my core HR role but an additional area of knowledge that supports a safer and more informed work environment.
✔ Broader engagement and learning activities
There are also opportunities to join in:
wellbeing and staff appreciation activities
internal campaigns and awareness events
team activities or celebration days
optional development sessions offered by the Trust or by Medirest
These activities help staff build connections, learn new things, and feel more involved in the organisation.
My workplace offers meaningful extra‑curricular and engagement opportunities, and I’ve been able to take part in several of them — from being an Employee Engagement Champion to completing Prevent training and taking on extra projects. These experiences have contributed to my personal growth, confidence, and sense of belonging at work.
