Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role involves managing the delivery of a construction project at the airport. This involves leading the team, managing sub-contractors, communicating with the Client, managing risks, design development and commercial management.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy my programme, I love the project I am working on and the team I work with. I have been given a lot of support from my team and senior leadership to develop my skills and have been given lots of opportunities to learn and grow.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed lots of different skills throughout the apprenticeship including soft skills like communication, confidence, leadership and problem solving as well as hard skills like planning and programming, commercial management, contract practice and how to manage a project.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme I am on has a clear structure throughout the duration of the programme, with internal training to develop my skills and support with the RICS APC programme.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

We receive internal training to help achieve all the required skills and are allocated our off the job hours to complete our university work. Mace Construct emerging talent team offers feedback and advice if I have concerns with my development on the programme and are there to support.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

We have a lot of support from the university including from module leaders and our apprenticeship outcomes officer who ensure you stay on track to succeed.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

A lot of what I'm learning at university can be transferred into my day to day role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes, there are social events throughout the year and often football matches or sports days that everyone can get involved in.

Why?
It's a really good programme if you want a career in construction, there is a clear development programme to follow and there is support from the business. Line managers are aware and understanding of the requirements of the apprenticeship and offer their support to ensue you succeed. In the job role, you are given responsibility and always treated as a valued member of the team.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mace Construct?
Throughout the application process, just be yourself and show a willingness to learn from others.
