Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I provided admin support to the Apprenticeships and Early Careers Team within People and Culture. I sent emails, answered phone calls, ran our Social Media pages, took notes in meetings and provided managers and apprentices with support and information.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I learnt so much during my apprenticeship through the HR professionals I was speaking to everyday. My apprenticeship made me a much more confident person and I couldn't of hoped for anything better.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I drastically improved my public speaking skills and confidence. I improved my ability to problem solve and work as a team with others to resolve issues. I also improved my time management skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

My manager ensured that I always had new learning planned, which made it so much easier to complete my apprenticeship. I attended lessons once a week where I was able to apply what I had learnt at work into my course. It was all very well structured.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My manager and team were always there to answer any questions or help with any concerns I had. I never once felt unsupported during my apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I could always rely on my tutor for help with assignments. I always had quick responses and was supported with any problems or gaps in my knowledge.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I apply what I learnt in my apprenticeship to my work everyday. I learnt skills that will stick with me throughout my whole career, and can be applied to any role that I may have in the future.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are lot's of networking groups and events going on in the Council. There is a community for everyone. The apprentices also started to arrange socials and organise events.

Devon County Council offers a competitive starting salary to apprentices and has an amazing support network. It's designated apprenticeships team are always on hand to answer questions and offer support. There are also lot's of job opportunities within the council when you complete your apprenticeship. It is an amazing place to start or change your career.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Devon County Council?
Make sure to read the person specification carefully when writing your supporting statement. Make sure you evidence each of the criteria in detail.
