A multi-trade operative is someone skilled in a variety of trades, like plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, and sometimes even painting or tiling. I work on a range of tasks, from fixing broken pipes to installing kitchen units or repairing walls. The average day for me as a multi-trade operative can be pretty varied. They might start by receiving a list of jobs to do, which could include anything from laying down new flooring, or replacing faulty wiring in a building. My day usually involves traveling between different work sites, using a variety of tools and materials, and solving problems that require knowledge in multiple trades. It's a hands-on job, so I need to be practical, have great attention to detail, and be comfortable working with different tools and materials. Sometimes I’ll be working on residential properties, while other times they might be involved in bigger commercial projects, depending on where they’re needed.
