Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
In my Tesco apprenticeship role, I support the day-to-day running of the store by helping maintain excellent customer service, ensuring stock is replenished efficiently, and keeping my section clean, organised, and well-presented. My work involves checking deliveries, rotating stock, following safety and freshness standards, and assisting customers with queries to make their shopping experience easier. I also learn about key retail processes such as merchandising, teamwork, and operational routines, while developing my own skills through training and on-the-job experience to contribute effectively to the store’s overall performance.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy my programme a lot because it gives me a good balance between learning and hands-on experience. I like that I’m constantly developing new skills while also seeing how they fit into the day-to-day running of the store. The support from colleagues and the chance to take on more responsibility as I progress makes it feel worthwhile, and I appreciate that the apprenticeship gives me clear goals to work towards. Overall, it feels rewarding, engaging, and genuinely useful for my future.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes. I’ve learnt a range of new skills and also developed the ones I already had. I’ve improved my customer service skills by dealing with different situations confidently and professionally, and I’ve become much better at time management and working efficiently during busy periods. I’ve also learnt practical retail skills like stock rotation, date checking, using store systems, and following food safety and merchandising standards. On top of that, I’ve developed stronger teamwork and communication skills from working closely with colleagues and supporting the wider department.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
My programme is well organised and has a clear structure, which makes it easy to follow and stay on track. I know what tasks, modules, and targets I’m working towards, and the training is spaced out in a way that supports my learning without feeling overwhelming. The mix of guided learning, on-the-job practice, and regular check-ins helps me understand what’s expected and how I’m progressing. Overall, the structure keeps me focused and makes the apprenticeship feel manageable and purposeful.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a good level of support from my employer, both day-to-day and throughout the apprenticeship. My colleagues and managers are approachable and always willing to answer questions or show me how to do something properly. I get regular check-ins and feedback, which helps me understand how I’m progressing and where I can improve. If I need help with coursework or specific tasks, there’s always someone available to guide me. Overall, I feel supported, encouraged, and able to develop confidently in my role.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive strong support from my training provider, which helps me stay confident while working towards my qualifications. They give clear guidance on what I need to complete, provide useful resources, and are easy to contact whenever I have questions or need clarification. My coach checks in regularly to review my progress, explain upcoming tasks, and make sure I understand everything. Her feedback is helpful and keeps me on track, so I always feel supported throughout the learning side of the programme.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I have yet to receive it.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Tesco plc to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend this apprenticeship to a friend because it’s a great way to gain real work experience while earning and learning at the same time. The programme is well structured, the training is genuinely useful, and you build skills that are valuable both in retail and in future careers. You get plenty of support, clear goals to work towards, and the chance to grow your confidence on the shop floor. It’s a practical, rewarding way to start a career with good progression opportunities, so I think it’s a programme that really benefits anyone willing to learn and work hard.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Tesco plc?
My biggest advice for anyone applying to Tesco is to be open, friendly, and willing to learn. Tesco values good customer service, so showing that you can communicate well and stay calm in busy situations really helps. Be honest about what you don’t know yet, they’re happy to train you as long as you show effort and enthusiasm. Once you start, take your time to learn the routines properly, ask questions whenever you’re unsure, and don’t be afraid to get involved in different tasks. Staying organised, working as part of a team, and keeping a positive attitude will make the job much easier and help you settle in quickly.
