Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
2/5
Working in retail is tough with few resources given and the patience in which management gives to meet KPIs is even smaller.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
Working on the apprenticeship programme had a lot of good moments, mainly because of working alongside others and they were good to bounce ideas off of. A lot of what i learnt I did already know though.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
Mainly improved my knowledge around regulation and legislation.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The programme learning was well structured on an online platform and it’s easy to follow. Although I was disappointed to not have more 1-2-1 with tutors, mentors, etc.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
2/5
In the store it was barely known it was going on. Meetings would sometimes be booked over the apprenticeship days and there was little engagement with the store unless I made the decision to actively learn new roles. The saving grace was that I was at least allowed that overtime to do the learning in different departments.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Regular calls with the apprenticeship manager and they kept on top of our progress as well as helped with the end point assessment. As I mentioned before, would have been nice to had more 1-2-1 teaching.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
I already knew a lot of what was taught and the end point assessment was basically watching me do my day to day job. Only exception being the awareness around regulations and legislation.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
There isn’t any right now no.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Tesco plc to a friend?
No
Why?
Retail is very hard to work in. As I said, you have little to work with and a lot is expected from you. You have lots of people off sick with stress or poor mental health and while there are things in place to help. The route cause is never going to be fixed in the industry.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Tesco plc?
Be approachable, eager to learn and stay motivated. Some days are hard but if you’re in a leadership position, those are the things that staff around you really appreciate.
