Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Costain?
It has been quite enjoyable so far and not too stressful but feels like Im making meaningful contributions, however its hard to say for sure as I only started 6 months ago.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
Process calculations assessing asset capacities on wastewater treatment sites, providing solutions to ensure regulatory compliance.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
4/5
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
4/5
10% matched pension, car allowance. Would prefer additional pay over some of the additional perks included in the total package.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
4/5
Good opportunities to get involved so far, remote working poses some challenges compared to in-person. i.e. more difficult to ask questions/get quick answers. Have to be more independent and can be challenging to find work to do if you are new to the company and have no one to tell you what to do in person/ supervise what you are doing. This issue will be exclusive to my team as we are one of the few remote teams.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
4/5
Not had many formal training sessions yet as the grad scheme has just commenced however I am learning lots about the industry I work in on a day to day basis.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
4/5
Good support however can sometimes be slow due to remote nature of work
How is your work-life balance?
5/5
Very good.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
5/5
Friendly/welcoming/down to earth team, exec team seems good so far. Flexi hours - company appreciates that we have lives outside of work.
How would you rate Costain initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
5/5
I cant comment as its not really applicable to me but there are networks for different groups to meet like minded people (e.g. womens network, bame network)
How would you rate Costain CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
5/5
Able to take 2 volunteering days per year. Good environmental/sustainable focus.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Costain to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Relaxed company culture, Good people, Nice offices, Lots of work
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
4/5
Thought it would be a bit more technical - hoping grad placements will allow for me to experience more technical aspects of engineering.
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Costain?
Be honest and try to align yourself with Costains core values where possible.
