Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Aldi?
I relocated several times for the job, at times my commute was significant but that is the nature of the role - there is an element of flexibility required there.
I still work for Aldi and I am very positive about my experience. The Graduate Scheme was very challenging, the training lasted 12 months, a combination of shadowing, store time (including acting as Store Manager) and spending time in other areas across the Region. I learnt a huge amount about myself, resilience was tested, and at time the hours I was required to work put a strain on my work/life balance. However, the business' approach to work/life balance has changed significantly over recent years. I have since mentored new trainees and though they are still challenged, as a business there is a real focus on mental health, and our trainees are treated fairly and in an environment which encourages them to flourish. I learnt invaluable skills in my training, made mistakes and used these to drive my career forward. I was given the opportunity to travel, experience working in different Regions, and there are opportunities to move to National departments.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
I love leading people, as an Area Manager on the Graduate Scheme you work with teams in different stores and connect with individuals, ultimately coaching them to success. In this role you drive high performance, high standards and support the team in navigating high pressure situations. In National departments you are able to influence across teams and drive key national KPIs, which challenges you in a different way.

Why?
I have gained confidence and skills in Aldi that I don't think I'd have picked up elsewhere in a short space of time. I continually learn, work with amazing people, have huge responsibilities and am very well paid. I get job satisfaction in what I do, and plan on staying here for years to come.

Be prepared to work hard, open to learning and experiencing new opportunities. Confidence is key, but you need to be humble enough to recognise areas for improvement and take on board feedback.
