Consultant (formerly Internal Auditor) Review

I was an internal audit consultant who performed internal audits for a variety of clients in the public sector (colleges, NHS Trusts, housing associations) and in the corporate sector. Every 1-2 weeks, I would start a new audit focused on a key department of the client e.g. health and safety, payroll, communications. This audit would begin with a scope detailing the specific processes to test, followed by meetings with the client, sample testing, writing up evidence results and formulating the report, ending with a debrief.

From around the 3-month mark the person I was shadowing would set me to complete areas of the audit independently, and at the 6-month mark I was completing my own audits with minimal oversight. This involved setting up and leading meetings with the client, going on-site for testing, and writing up the report.

High levels of guidance with the first month, involving theoretical and practical exercises to introduce us to the work. Consistent senior support and feedback throughout months 1-3. Lighter but active support afterwards.
