Year in Industry Environmental Consents Intern Review

I worked on one of RWE's wind farms, the Sofia project, in the consents team. My role was uniquely split, so I also ended up working with the fisheries strategy lead for the whole of the UK wind farm fleet too, gaining experience managing fisheries stakeholders and conflicts. On the Sofia consents team, I worked on the foundations, marine mammals and underwater noise packages primarily, helping to manage documentation and workstreams.

Yes! It was thoroughly rewarding and I became a trusted member of both teams I was a part of, contributing to meaningful work and leading on a few projects too.

Absolutely - particularly project management skills, which were new to me in starting this placement. I developed my existing teamwork and communication skills further to be suited to a professional environment, and enhanced my organisational skills through working across two teams with mutliple simultaneous demands.

There is significant support provided, as you are connect with a mentor. This is a self-led relationship, so you do have to take charge of this, but it is extremely rewarding and supportive if you do so. My managers were both very supportive, as was my line manager, and the early careers HR representative is very attentive too with regular check-ins.

Greatly! My teams were both a joy to be a part of, I met some excellent colleagues and made some excellent friends. I got to feel very comfortable in the office environment and greatly developed my confidence in a professional setting.
