Graduate Test Engineer Review

My time at JLR has been incredibly beneficial for the betterment of my career. The attention to detail my managers have provided in regards to my professional development is exceptional. I have enjoyed the ability to get involved with high intensity projects soon after joining the company, presenting me with countless opportunities to employ my critical thinking skills and engineering practices that had been learnt during my time at university. I continue to feel motivated in helping the company work towards a future of electrification and I am grateful to be able to work for this great British heritage brand.

The role includes a variety of responsibilities that can change day-to-day. However the main responsibilities are:
- Ensuring the design of a Test station complies with both the companies and government regulations.
- Confident in your ability to identify possible failure modes/risks within a process and how to prevent the event of such failure modes. This is done through Process Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (PFMEA) training which the company and/or department usually provide.
- Have a thorough understanding of the product that is being manufactured and what it is that you are testing for.
- Be confident is answering the following questions: What are the test parameters?, what are the upper & lower limits for your test results? What is the testing process? Is it a manual or automated process? etc.
My favourite element of the role is seeing a product come to life from design all the way to manufacture as well as the ability to travel.

To a large extent. The role allows me to share my ideas freely and openly especially when problem solving, it is enjoyable to feel noticed and valued especially when bringing a different set of skills into the team. Such as CAD part design knowledge. However, it must be understood that the onus will sometimes be on you to determine how best to add value to the team you find yourself in.

Manufacturing comes with an inherent reality, that requires one to be at the production facility for 80-90% of their working hours in a day, week, month etc. But with any role there a trade offs and you must consider what you are willing to give and take.

Yes

I think it is a company that looks great on ones CV, it allows you the freedom to try completely different roles and get involved in topics you would never had though possible. It gives you a chance to be paid well but at the same time have real input on any projects that are going on. Further to that, the training JLR provides during the graduate scheme is fantastic and can be applied in every aspect of life not just work.

It was great, very easy. I had been an undergraduate so did not have any issues. If applying for the first time it is likely that you will have to attend an assessment centre but they are very welcoming and it is clear those that help you early on in the recruitment process want the absolute best for you.
