Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at JLR?
My experience at JLR has been rewarding. From the start, I’ve felt driven into real work, contribute to live services, and learn through doing, which also includes making mistakes and growing from them. The trust placed in grads to work on meaningful projects has made the experience feel authentic and valuable.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
As a Software Graduate, my work primarily focuses on back-end development using technologies like Java Spring Boot and AWS. I really enjoy working with these tools and being part of a team that builds scalable systems. The technical challenges and the opportunity to deepen my expertise in back-end development are really good, and feel quite rewarding.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
5/5
One of the standout aspects of the scheme is how I’m treated as a full member of the team. My input is taken seriously, and I’m encouraged to ask questions and contribute ideas. I’ve had many opportunities to take ownership of tasks and feel genuinely valued by my team members. I’m not seen as “just a grad,” but as a software engineer.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
5/5
The salary is decent and reflects the responsibilities of the role. There are also some great perks, including flexible working arrangements and access to training resources. These benefits help create a balanced and supportive working environment.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
5/5
The scheme is doing a fantastic job of preparing me for a future in back-end development. I’m gaining hands-on experience with relevant technologies and building a strong foundation for my career. The support from mentors and the structure of the programme have been key to my growth.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
5/5
I’ve had plenty of opportunities to develop both new and existing skills. Formal training sessions like core skills workshops, Tata Innovation events, and the Grad Innovation Challenge (GIC) (GIC starts in 2026) have been excellent. On the job, learning is constant, and I’m always picking up new techniques and insights from my team. They always explain stuff to me whenever I get stuck and give me time to understand stuff.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
5/5
The support I get from everyone is well. From my manager to HR, everything has been well. Buddies helped get me started and helped me land on my feet; mentors/seniors in my team always help and never hesitate to do so.
How is your work-life balance?
5/5
It's good. My typical working week supports my personal time, physical and mental wellbeing, which is what I need in a company
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?

100% welcoming culture, JLR is very inclusive. Hybrid/remote policies are dependent upon job needs
How would you rate JLR initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It's a really good flexible company, the grad scheme is full of stuff like being able to drive on an off-road course, manufacturing week (being able to work in a factory for a week, so we get to experience that side of the business). Everyone is supportive and wants us to exceed.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
5/5
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to JLR?
Do a lot of practice interviews and be yourself.
