Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I have been able to take on my own project, which aligns to my goals of becoming a project manager. I am able to seek out different activities based on interests or skills gaps so recently I have shadowed and completed tasks with a BA to complete: Process maps, data mapping, requirements gathering, impact assessments etc.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
It is great, at university they all check in and the apprentice programme leader at NWG checks to see how work and university are. Happy to bring up any concerns or comments to lectures and line managers to ensure we get the most benefit out of the program. She also checks to see what our goals and interests are so we have every opportunity we need.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes many, at the moment I have a focus on leadership, stakeholder, and communication skills to support my growth.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Very well, we rotate every six months, and before we move the leader ensures the work we are assigning will be sufficient and meet our goals and ability.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
We have weekly check ins, I am always given the option for support if required. It is so friendly yet professional, everyone is always happy to support both with work and university studies.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Yes, they have 3 monthly reviews with us and our current line managers to ensure we are on track and happy with how everything going.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Yes, in my current rotation there is direct links. Where I am performing pieces of work that I developed in university such as ER - Diagrams.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, I am in the sports and social club, Wistem network, Agile network and Innovation ambassadors. With Wistem I am also in the education pillar which links to my interests in education and how to support women in education.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Northumbrian Water Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
A great company, so much support and work. They do not treat you like an apprentice you are a valued member of the team.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Northumbrian Water Group?
They would rather look for someone willing to learn and try than qualifications. A great reason why without a technical background I was able to apply for an IS Apprenticeship but develop a strong interests in IS and how to work within the department.
