Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I worked on a variety of tasks, many of these task involved softwares and excel. There was a lot of work involving automation and development of current processes.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I was given a lot of responsibility, with my team pushing my capabilities and allowing me to really develop problem solving skills.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

Yes I developed a range of skills throughout my placement year.
Communication skills, whilst I was already a confident communicator I learnt how to adapt my communication and presentation style to suit those I was working with.
Technical skills, I used a range of softwares and gained a more comprehensive skill set for excel.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I was always well supported at Bupa. As a placement student there is the support of the early careers team and the cohort of other placements and graduates. Throughout my time at Bupa there was not a person that I met that wasn’t willing to give 5/10 mins to help progress your skills or just talk about career prospects.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The culture at Bupa is incredible. There is a massive drive for development and progression and that makes the atmosphere exciting. There is a massive focus on staff wellbeing and several working groups constantly trying to adapt and fix currently procedures to better suit employees.

My placement year was incredible. From the skills that I have developed and will be able to take throughout my career with me but also for the people the connections and the great memories.

What advice would you give to others applying to Bupa

Be yourself. Within every team at Bupa there is no two people that are the same. Bupa knows that skills can be taught and knowledge can be gained but it is passion and drive that can distinguish a good employee from and excellent one. So learn about the company get passionate about their aims and ambitions and ensure that enthusiasm comes across.
