Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Autodesk?
I have had had a very good time at Autodesk, through the graduate program and internship to now being a software engineer assigned to a team. The graduate program puts you rotating through several teams until a space opens up and you can join a team that is a good match. These teams are all working in Fusion, but you get a taste of different parts of manufacturing software, from designing machine toolpaths to working on machine simulation. There is a good curious, open and friendly culture here, where people are open to share knowledge and give you help. The work feels meaningful, impactful and a good challenge, and the pay is good. I'm very happy here, but to try and provide some balance, the main drawback is the business park office location and quiet office on some days of the week due to hybrid working.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
We've been working on Fusion. I did three rotations:
- Bronze team: working on machine toolpaths, which involved some more mathematical work
- Walnut team: working on an upcoming feature
- Maple team: working on drilling automation
In all these teams I was either given software engineering tasks or picked up tasks from a backlog, which included a mixture of implementing new features and bug fixes.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
5/5
Pretty much all the work I have done has gotten into customers hands which has felt meaningful. As I progressed through the program I was given more responsibility, eventually being entrusted with more time-sensitive work.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
5/5
Competitive salary for a non-London location working regular hours. In addition to salary there may be RSUs, Employee Share Purchasing Program, health, dental, vision, internet. I feel well renumerated.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
4/5
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
5/5

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
5/5
Whenever I have needed support it has been there.
How is your work-life balance?
5/5
Consistent rate of work at a suitable level of challenge. No crunch periods. Work does not spill over alloted work hours.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
4/5
The organisation has an open and friendly culture. The drawback is that it is a very remote/hybrid work environment - on Mondays/Fridays the office is very quite.
How would you rate Autodesk initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
5/5
How would you rate Autodesk CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
4/5

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Autodesk to a friend?
Yes
Why?
If you like programming and are interested more physical processes (art, dt, etc...), it is a satisfying thing to work on!
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
4/5
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Autodesk?
- Make sure you are brushed up on basic school mathematics and general software engineering techniques
- They do hire people who don't do computer science (there are a lot of them actually) so don't let that disuade you from applying.
