Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Autodesk?
It was a lovely graduate scheme! I got to rotate on different teams and my preferences were taken into account. Everyone was very helpful and the scheme itself was clearly very mature.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
More or less similar responsibilities on each rotation - I was pretty much doing the same work everyone else in the team was doing (adding features, fixing bugs, and other developer stuff), which I really enjoyed as I felt like I made actual contributions!
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
5/5
Obviously I has less knowledge and often asked team members for help, but overall I felt just like any other developer in the team.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
5/5
I feel that it's a really solid salary for a new grad. On top of this we get lots of benefits as we are effectively permanent hires - including bonuses, insurances, and company stock grants, etc.
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
5/5
It's really great as you are treated as a normal employee from day one - yes there are lots of training as well as a fair learning curve, but you get to do real work from the get-go.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
4/5
The various teams we are able to rotate through work on a wide range of features with a wide range of technology, so there's lots of opportunities to learn new things. Some teams have a bit more repetitive work that involve mostly maintenance, which I can see being a bit same-y.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
5/5
You're assigned a mentor, a supervisor, and a buddy, which usually are 3 different people. They provide different perspectives and you can have interesting dialogues with all of them! I really liked this as it may not feel comfortable or necessary discussing everything with your manager. I feel that I've received ample support during the grad scheme.
How is your work-life balance?
4/5
Work-life balance is good as you are expected to come in on time and leave on time - I've never felt pressured to stay longer than I had to. If there is more work, you can always do it the next day, so it's not very stressful. My only tiny complaint is that the commute can be a bit time-consuming as the office is not in Birmingham city centre, and there aren't many places to stay near by.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
5/5
It's fairly laid back compared to most companies I've worked at :) People seem relaxed but also genuinely driven to work on the product, and it's easy to see many of my colleagues are really passionate about what they do. The remote working policy is great, you start off coming into the office 5 days a week, but a couple months in you can work half the days from home. It's really flexible. Coworkers are friendly and there are fun socials organised every quarter.
How would you rate Autodesk initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
5/5
There are networks that promote diversity (e.g. Asian network, Women's network) which you can join and connect with those with a similar background. These networks also host socials which is a great way to get to know people you don't normally work with. An example that comes to mind is the Lunar New Year social where we had a nice meal and put up decorations around the office.
How would you rate Autodesk CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
5/5
There is a program where Autodesk would match your donations to charities, as well as a site where you can log your volunteering hours which in turn converts to donations you can make to charities of your choice!

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Autodesk to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Good company culture, and there's a lot of younger employees (recent grads) which makes it a fun and social environment. Isn't super stressful especially during the grad programme, and colleagues are friendly and helpful.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
5/5
Exactly as expected.
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Autodesk?
There is a LOT going on in the onboarding process. I actually found it more helpful to slowly work through them in the first couple of months rather than doing everything at once, which I found impossible!
