I am an apprentice electrician so I switch between doing day-to-day repairs on properties to testing the electrics in empty properties
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I highly enjoy what I do because I work with good people and I physically enjoy doing electrical repairs or testing.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Over my time as an apprentice I have gone from knowing pretty much nothing about electrics to have a very good knowledge and understanding of the science and logic behind electrics.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

It’s okay, I’ve spent over 3 years now as an apprentice and for over a year now I’ve been asking to go out on my own as I believe this is the only way for me to progress further but there are multiple reasons as to why I cannot be let on my own. Understandable because of insurances etc but not helpful for me as I’m more than competent which has been proven time and time again and I’m still stuck doing the same thing I was over a year ago.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

The apprenticeship team at clarion have been absolutely amazing, genuinely happy to see me succeed and will try anything they can to support me in my journey, my manager in particular has been faultless and makes me feel like they have my back in whatever I want to do. They always put on apprenticeship events and days for us all to connect and network so we can all push each other forward. They have also shown big support in helping me go out on my own to progress my career further.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My training provider (JTL) has been great and they have given me loads of support. Anytime I have needed further clarification on certain things they don’t hesitate to help. They have always made sure I feel supported in my workplace and if I need to change companies for whatever reason they have made clear they would help me in that.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I have learnt a lot of my current knowledge from my training providers such as the science behind why and how each component works and how it all goes together to provide power to the world. I have also learnt loads about the health and safety and how different procedures are put into place to protect people and workers from injury when working with electrics. There are also a lot of numbers and formulas that I have learnt that I use in my daily work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are absolutely loads. Apprenticeship Unwrapped events, Individual team bonding sessions, lunch and learns, NSPCC volunteering programme, Roadshows etc etc etc. The list goes on.

Why?
All in all they have been great to work for. They offer loads of support and their apprenticeship team is incredible. They also offer competitive salaries for apprentices as well which is a bonus.
