Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
To provide professional gardening services throughout Clarion sites. I was
responsible for performing generic and routine maintenance at a portfolio of
properties including large estates with grassed areas, flower gardens, plants & hedges
and patio areas.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I love gardening and learning about horticulture. Being out and about all day moving around is really beneficial for my health both mental and physical. There are a lot of different challenges and no two days are the same.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learned a lot about horticulture through practically working in the field and also from my apprenticeship course. I have learned how to use gardening equipment safely and effectively and how to identify lots of different plants. I have also learned how to care for these plants and get the best out of small garden spaces to help residents and love wildlife.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
My program provider is mostly remote which can provide some challenges when learning a practical skill such as gardening but the online training is good and they are always there for help and support whenever needed. They take care of their students and want them to do well.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
The support from the Clarion apprenticeship team is fantastic, they provided me with a mentor, checked in with me often to make sure I have everything I needed and even organised great team building and networking days for the apprentices. The team really care about each apprentice as an individual and help us navigate any issues we might have with our team, or course provider. They go above and beyond to make sure we feel supported.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
We had lectures every other week for the first year of the apprenticeship, we also had site visits and email support any time we needed it.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I did learn a lot from the lectures that I could then apply practically in my role which is really good.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Clarion is a very big organisation and there are lots of extra things you can do to get more involved if you wanted to. For example, there's lots of different committees and employee networks you can get involved in. For example, I am a sustainability champion. You also get a volunteer day that you can use to volunteer for a cause of your choice and there are lots of charity events you can take part in throughout the year. The apprenticeship team put on two big events a year from apprentices and there are also lots of smaller social events you could get involved with if you wanted.
