Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Mott MacDonald?
I have an excellent support network which has been accepting and understanding of my abilities. Anything I am unsure about there is always someone which I can ask. I have had a wide variety of different projects comprising of different and interesting tasks including an opportunity to work on site for 6 weeks which I really enjoyed. There are frequent social events to network with others within the company, so despite being the only graduate geotechnical engineer in the office, I never felt isolated from other graduates and also got to know other graduate geotechnical engineers in other offices. The company has flexible amounts of annual leave and is very understanding of sick days. The annual sports day is also great fun!
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
-Undertaking desk studies of sites
-Reviewing and interpreting ground investigation data and geotechnical parameters
-Scheduling of additional ground investigation
-Analysis and design of ground structures (e.g. cuttings & embankments, foundations, retaining walls)
-On site ground investigation supervision
As someone who did a degree in civil engineering, I particularly enjoy design work and getting out on site. Getting a better understanding of geology is also interesting. I also enjoy using advanced software for the creation of ground models
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?

How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?

I also get free private health insurance, a generous training budget, options for slight salary reduction to cover gym memberships, annual transport, dentist appointements (saves money on tax)
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
5/5
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
4/5
Day to day role is great, I question how important some of the mandatory training is. These occasional training days are still very enjoyable as an opportunity to meet other graduates

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Mott MacDonald to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Nothing to add other than what I have already said in previous answers
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
5/5
Recruitment consists of an online assessment, application form and interview (can be online if preferred). The company covered my travel costs for the interview. The interview gave me the opportunity to ask questions about the job role so I knew what tasks I would be doing
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Mott MacDonald?
Take time with the application form and make sure that you cover a variety of strengths you have, regardless of where those strengths came from
