Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

As a Software Development Engineering Intern, my role involves contributing to the development and maintenance of software systems within the team. On a day-to-day basis, I engage in activities such as:
Writing and reviewing code for assigned features or bug fixes.
Participating in daily stand-ups and sprint planning meetings.
Collaborating with other engineers to understand system architecture and design decisions.
Testing and debugging software to ensure reliability and performance.
Learning and applying best practices in software engineering, including version control, documentation, and code quality standards.
I also have opportunities to observe and learn from experienced engineers, gaining exposure to real-world development workflows and tools.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, I was given a meaningful level of responsibility during my internship. I was trusted with tasks that contributed directly to the team’s goals, including working on production-level code and participating in team discussions. This helped me build confidence and develop practical skills. Additionally, I was encouraged to ask questions and take initiative, which made the experience both educational and impactful.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I built AWS infrastructure, created data analytics dashboards and learned react and typescript to fix front end bugs. Also a lot of exposure to devops, making pipelines, using GitHub action, spinnaker pipeline and Artifactory for deployment.

What advice would you give to others applying to Expedia Group

Take time to answer the online assessment and don't rush it. If you preform well in them they reply to you very quickly. My whole application process took 2 weeks.
