Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

My day-to-day work involved learning the CIMS processes, breaking down automation requirements into Jira tickets, tracking progress and leading meetings to clarify workflows and align the team. I independently worked on two key epic deliverables: the ML Triage User Flow, for which I created five tickets, and Tiered MODs, for which I created six tickets. This involved translating business requirements into actionable stories, defining acceptance criteria and following the work through Jira.
Most of my time was spent developing the CIMS Support Agent, a custom Glean agent that helps engineers, analysts and TPMs answer questions and troubleshoot issues. I connected relevant knowledge sources and tools, wrote skills for recurring CIMS topics, tested the agent in Slack and improved it based on feedback. I also worked on a side project to fix and improve the EPS Incentive Agent.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes, I was given significant responsibility for an intern. I worked independently on the ML Triage and Tiered MODs epic deliverables, including breaking down the work, writing and tracking Jira tickets, defining acceptance criteria and leading meetings to understand the workflows.
I also took ownership of the CIMS Support Agent, which became my main project. I developed its initial foundation, added tools and skills, tested it using real team questions, addressed issues and documented how it could be maintained after my placement. I was also trusted to contribute to improvements to the EPS Incentive Agent.
Although I had ownership of the work, I collaborated with engineers and subject-matter experts to validate my understanding and review decisions. This gave me meaningful responsibility while allowing me to learn from the team and make sure the solutions were accurate and useful. The agent has been handed over and has become a very impactful addition to the team, as it helped cut respond and resolution times.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

Yes, I developed both my technical and project-management skills. I learned how CIMS works, including its compliance processes, ML triage flow, integrations and Tiered MODs, as well as how to use tools such as Jira and Glean effectively.
I improved at breaking down complex requirements into clear Jira tickets, writing acceptance criteria, tracking delivery and leading meetings. I also developed skills in AI-agent design, prompt improvement, creating agent skills, connecting knowledge sources, testing responses and troubleshooting integration or permission issues.
The internship also strengthened my stakeholder communication, prioritisation and problem-solving. I became more confident explaining technical processes to different audiences and taking ownership of work from initial investigation through to delivery, documentation and handover.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I received consistent support and guidance throughout my internship, especially while learning the CIMS domain and becoming familiar with tools such as Jira and Glean. My manager, navigator and mentor helped me understand the team, set priorities and develop my confidence, while engineers and supply analysts provided technical context. My team was there to answer any questions and made me feel very welcome. Lastly, the Emerging Talent team created a very supportive and fun environment throughout the whole internship.
The support was balanced with independence. I was able to ask questions and get help when I faced challenges such as permission issues, integrations or unclear workflows, but I was trusted to investigate problems, lead meetings, write tickets and make progress on my own. This helped me build confidence while still having the guidance needed to deliver accurate and useful work.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The company culture was welcoming, supportive and friendly. There was a good balance between being professional and corporate while still having a relaxed and approachable atmosphere. Everyone I worked with was kind, encouraging and willing to help, which made it easy to ask questions and settle into the team.
It was also really positive to see more Black women represented in STEM. That helped create a stronger sense of belonging and made the environment feel even more encouraging and inclusive.
