Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
During my internship with Hymans Robertson, I worked as part of the Defined Contribution (DC) Consulting team, gaining hands-on experience across both client work and internal projects. My role combined analytical research, project support, and creative input, giving me a well-rounded view of the pensions and investment consulting industry.
Day-to-day responsibilities included:
Data Analysis & Research: Conducted competitor benchmarking, peer comparisons, and survey analysis on DC benefit structures, using Excel to clean, analyse and present data effectively.
Project Work: Supported the delivery of my intern project - designing and analysing a DC benefits survey - including survey setup on Microsoft Dynamics, chasing responses, and producing early insights and presentation material.
Client Support: Assisted on client-related tasks such as desktop pension scheme reviews, provider comparisons, and updating slides on climate metrics and master trust research.
Engagement & Collaboration: Attended internal DC team meetings, business planning sessions, and networking events. I also supported charity challenges, including organising and running fundraising activities.
Presentation & Communication: Produced PowerPoint materials for both internal use and my project, ensuring slides were clear, engaging, and aligned with professional standards.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given real responsibility throughout my internship. I managed key parts of my summer project, including designing and analysing a DC benefits survey, and supported live client work such as updating scheme reviews and climate metrics.
