Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Hymans Robertson?
It has been very positive! I enjoy going to work and feel that I've made a good decision working at Hymans. I'm well supported in both my work and my studies, and I'm surrounded by people I like working with.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
My main responsibilities include carrying out "GMP equalisation" calculations, calculating transfer values, and helping client teams on a weekly basis with any work coming through.
I enjoy being able to use maths in my role and being given real responsibility but in a safe environment. All my work is checked and reviewed so that I can learn from identified mistakes and improve my ability.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
5/5
I have a people manager who's my main point of contact for any issues. They support me throughout my role. I also have a buddy who is a more informal version of my people manager, and is more there to make sure I'm comfortable. In all my teams, the people I work with are always checking in on me and ensuring that I'm now overwhelmed.
How is your work-life balance?
5/5
We are encouraged to not overwork ourselves and stick to 9-5 timings. They allow us to occasionally shift a day's work hours to fit appointment times etc. We are also given a bank of study days which work out at around 1 a week. This is a day off work where we can focus on studying for our exams which helps takes a lot of stress off.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
5/5
The firm prioritises their culture and the people around are generally very friendly and fun to work with. There's spaces for you to voice any concerns you may have, although I haven't had any yet, and you always feel supported. The firm has plenty of groups available for members of LGBT+ community, neurodiverse people, people from ethnic minorities etc. so everyone can feel welcome and provide advice to the firm on how to best suit their needs as employees.
How would you rate Hymans Robertson initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
4/5
The firm consistently voices the importance of all the above topics, having webinars and mandatory training sessions for all staff.
How would you rate Hymans Robertson CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
5/5
We are all given volunteer days and encouraged to take part, the company has plenty of charitable events and partners with local charities. When you around friendly people, CSR initiatives tend to work so Hymans is in a good place.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Hymans Robertson to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is a fun place to work where you feel included, valued and supported. I've heard of plenty people from other firms complaining about their workload or being overwhelmed, and that simply isn't the case at Hymans. I would very highly recommend it, especially as a place to start your career and grow as a professional.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
4/5
There were a couple misconceptions I had coming in, but overall it's actually better than what I imagined.
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Hymans Robertson?
Hymans in particular will recruit people who are good to work with. That does mean people who can be trusted and relied upon, but it also means people who are fun to be around, care for others and just appear to be overall good people. I'd actually say that your personality, in terms of who nice a person you are, is more important than the technical skills since those skills can be taught. Saying that, technical skills are still important!
