Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
The role was in the On Air Department as a part of both Presentation Scheduling and Continuity and Navigation teams. This consisted of scheduling individual days for presentation: inputting promos, ensuring the day complies to all relevant laws and rules, timing out so everything runs smoothly. And working on graphics and voiceovers in continuity: editing, listening to voiceovers and working with the artists, checking graphic plans, making graphics such as oxtels for both UK and international channels. Depending on the team you’re on the day looks different but presentation would consist of completing allocated schedules and continuity ranges day to day.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes, I felt there was a good balance of responsibility but support alongside it. By the end of the placement, I was manager of a channel within presentation and trained the two new interns. I felt confident in what I was doing but also knew I could ask the team questions if I was ever unsure.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
Overall, I loved my placement. It was a year of hard work which was rewarding in itself but on top of that was a throughly enjoyable and fun experience. Having a chance to be part of such a wonderful company and even more amazing team was crucial to such an enjoyable year. Moreover, I felt less like an intern and more like a valued team member! The level of respect from those in the team was highly appreciated. Despite occasional stressful periods or moments, having the team behind me and a fellow intern doing the same role made it easier to overcome challenges.
